Nitehawk Cinema is New York’s premier dine-in theater, pairing exemplary first-run and repertory film programming along with tableside food and beverage service.
Nitehawk strives to enhance the cinematic experience with a creative framework by providing a specialty menu with fresh, local ingredients inspired by the films we love; archival 35mm projection; and special guest Q&As;.
Our weekend brunch and midnite repertory screenings span a wide range of films, from 35mm rarities to new independent features. Each of our screenings begin with a house-made thirty-minute “pre-show” filled with content inspired by the film.
Nitehawk Prospect Park houses seven screens, with theaters ranging in size from 48 seats to 194 seats. Nitehawk’s upstairs bar offers full-service food and drinks, and features handcrafted cocktails, local brews and spirits from regional distillers.
Nitehawk Williamsburg is a triplex, hosting 92, 60, and 34-seat theaters. Lo-Res, Nitehawk’s downstairs bar, offers full-service food and drink, and outdoor seating during the warmer months, and features handcrafted cocktails, local brews and spirits from regional distillers.
Job description
Summary of Position:
Responsible for all aspects of Front of House management and service at Nitehawk Cinema. Overseeing service and general operations alongside the GM. Organize and communicate with all departments as necessary to achieve service goals while cultivating relationships with guests and staff to ensure a quality experience at Nitehawk. Working closely with the entire management team in developing Nitehawk Cinema as the premier dinner and movie destination in NYC.
Specific Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist General Manager in daily operations. Staying focused and maintain a constant level of professionalism
- Be a senior manager presence on the floor, leading by example and adhere to all guidelines set forth by Nitehawk Cinema
- Heavy focus on service by overseeing all servers, being a constant on the floor and communicating all service needs, providing preshifts on scheduled floor shifts. Observe service as a whole and offer suggestions for improvement when necessary.
- Oversee maintenance and cleanliness of the whole space: FDNY log, bathroom maintenance, maintenance list, temperatures of hallways and theaters seasonally, all signage is up to date throughout the space, organize server stations, overall cleanliness and appearance of the space making sure Nitehawk Cinema is a constant inviting place for guests
- Work alongside GM to make sure discounts and adjustments are being rung in accordingly, giving feedback to Leads, FOH Managers and Bar Managers when necessary
- Check time punches for FOH weekly hours, and cross check against the tip pool totals for payroll purposes. Review nightly Tip pool entries to ensure they are correct. Update all sheets as needed.
- Assist management team with FOH hiring, orientation, training, training binders, employee reviews and handling disciplinary issues. Motivate staff and develop their skill set to excel at service. Provide opportunities for staff to learn, grow and develop their abilities
- Review the weekly schedule for runners, and assist the BOH manager when needed. Build and implement full time server schedules in big business times. Keep an eye on overall staff level needs for busy and slow times
- Work alongside the GM to constantly train and communicate daily/weekly changes to all managers
- Ensure that all managers are upkeeping employee files, employee training, staff reference documents, guest documents and staff binders when needed. Assist with Floor Management hiring and training
- Set weekly goals for prioritizing and staying on top of tasks. Use the Manager Meeting doc.
- Complete tasks assigned to you in a timely manner, following up with the necessary parties involved if needed
- Assist with invoice tracking for bookkeepers. Handle chargeback inquiries from credit card processors
- Responsible for merchandise inventory, staying on top of what's needed, i.e. making sure we have enough books in-house for a book/cinema event
- Assist with menu changes and specials, weekly and seasonal
- Responsible for Floor shifts as well as office hours. Provide coverage of floor shifts when needed
- Remain open and flexible to the evolution of the industry, the needs of the staff, and business. Concentration on providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for staff and guests.
- Managers are to set a good tone in the work environment. Willing to help in all aspects of operations is required
- Ensure open communication across all departments and that information is distributed efficiently
General:
- Understand and implement all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines and training programs as outlined in the Nitehawk Cinema employee manual. Adhere to all cash handling, cash management and cash register policies set forth by Nitehawk Cinema operational policies and procedures and ensure proper cash management practices are followed
- Ensure that all guests feel welcome and are given friendly, responsive, efficient and courteous service at all times. Handle disruptive guests when needed
- Maintain a pristine aesthetic at Nitehawk Cinema that will project a constant positive image, including all front of house and back of house operational areas. Ensure that Home Location is a clean, safe, and DOH compliant facility
- Provide movie, food and beverage product information to employees and guests, and answer any questions with courtesy and respect
- Provide opportunities for staff to learn, grow and develop their abilities. (Successful demonstration of this will be evident by employee satisfaction and retention of those under your supervision)
- Must maintain good hygiene, good posture, and must display the image set forth by Nitehawk Cinema.Must have the ability to work on your feet for long periods of time, carry and lift items up to 50 lbs and be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift items.
- Job requires a flexible schedule and working nights, weekend and holiday hours.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years upper level restaurant management experience
- Knowledge of NYC and state laws regarding employment rights
- NYC Food Handlers, FDNY Fire Guard (F-01 and F-03) Certificate, TIPS certification within 60 days of acceptance
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $75,000 - $100,000
