Creekside Organics works with multiple growers throughout California and Mexico advising on crop planning, monitoring quality control, and marketing a large variety of organic produce to diverse domestic and international customers.

 

We are seeking a Food Safety Specialist with knowledge of food safety in the produce industry to work on our food safety team. The position includes food safety & organic certification duties, document control, and working with our vendors, customers, and growers.

 

This position will work with our Food Safety team and oversee the implementation of the requirements, policies, procedures, programs and training components of the Food Safety system. This position serves as the lead for product recall communications, regulatory inspections, Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) audits, and for interaction with suppliers, growers, and customers on Food Safety related issues. This position will work with our team of growers to insure they adhere to required food safety protocols, policies and procedures. Training on our procedures and protocols will be given.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

Including but not limited to:

 

  • Implement and maintain all Organic Compliance & Food Safety related programs and standards for Creekside
  • Working with the Creekside’s Food Safety team evaluating/creating/auditing all programs and policies as needed for full certification according to the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards and LGMA standards.
  • Ensure that all outside operations comply with federal, state, local, customer and company Food Safety policies and regulations. Prepare and submit all required reports and correspondence.
  • Inspect vendors, growers, associated coolers and Creekside’s documentation for conformity to applicable regulations and
  • Work with growers and coolers to monitor and verify activities to ensure that all product coming into and shipping from our associate coolers meet all Food Safety requirements, quality standards, and specifications.
  • Ensure that all company Food Safety and Quality Assurance procedures are followed and documented at all
  • Work with suppliers on ensuring that all federal, state, and local Food Safety regulations are in
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Food Safety regulatory requirements (Federal, State/Provincial and, Local),
  • Handle and oversee the product recall process to ensure timely communication and execution of product recalls and completion of related documentation.
  • Manage Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), independent 3rd party, customer, internal, and regulatory Analyze results and gather corrective action plans for audit non-conformance. Review final results with Management.
  • Follow-up promptly and thoroughly on Food Safety requests and complaints from Effectively communicate resolutions to internal and external stakeholders as needed.

 

Requirements
  • Food safety experience
  • Food safety training and education
  • Spanish language skills a plus
  • Organic experience
  • Strong computer, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with managers, employees, vendors, growers, and
 
  • Must be able to travel seasonally and flexible with work
  • Strong work ethic, highly motivated, self-
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team
  • Communicate effectively (verbally and written)
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
