Company description
Canticle Farm, founded in 2001 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit sponsored ministry by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, is a Community Supported Agriculture committed to connecting all peoples, to practice Earth friendly habits and to come to a realization of a Creation centered spirituality. Everyone is welcome at the farm, a true community farm.
Our philosophy is based on FSA’s concept of guidance through a justice-focused purpose using a model of land preservation that produces safe, nutritious produce for all people. We believe everyone should have access to fresh produce at affordable prices.
Part of our mission is to provide the local community with fresh, affordable, healthy, locally grown food using sustainable farming methods without the use of synthetic or chemical applications. Our 15-acre, four-season farm incorporates stewardship and respect for the land by using Certified Naturally Grown growing methods, as we provide for the food security and health of the area’s families, as well as educational opportunities.
Our Franciscan values teach us the importance of giving back to our community. Each year the Farm donates at least of 20% of our CSA harvest to the region’s food pantries, hot meal programs and shelters through organizations engaged in alleviating food insecurity throughout Cattaraugus and Allegany counties in NY, and McKean County in PA.
We continually work to improve efficiencies and are able to donate approximately 8,000 pounds of produce annually to those who can least afford it. We are able to accomplish this through our Sponsored Share Program, supported by grants and donations from religious groups and societies, local organizations, individuals and friends of the farm. The sponsorship of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, the forward-thinking Board of Directors, our hard-working staff, belief in and support of our mission and vision have nurtured the farm as we enter our 22nd growing season.
