Long Table Farm is accepting applications for Farmer Manager positions on a small scale, diversified, regenerative farm in the beautiful Connecticut River Valley. We are seeking a team of two or one person with a diverse array of skills & experience.

 Our farm is starting the 10th season of operation. We have a loyal customers and deep roots in our local community. We live and work as a harmonious crew on our home farm, while traveling to 4 different preserved fields. We love to eat farm grown and cooked meals together, and welcome crew friends and family for visits. We are located close to Amtrak, 2 hours to NYC and Boston. Our region is rich in local farms, art institutions, hiking trails, salt and fresh-water.

Our farm is home to an abundance of wildlife, and everyone who lives here appreciates that. We believe that everyone should have access to healthy food. We work with local food banks and offer a share scholarship. We believe in uprooting racism in our food system and recognize that we are farming the land of the Western Nehantics. Expected skills, qualities, and experience (these can be spread between 2 people):

  • 3 full seasons on a farms producing food & driver’s license
  • Ability to crouch and lift 40 pounds repetitively- we team lift over this weight
  • Capacity to work with a diverse array of WWOOFers, local folks of all ages
  • Agricultural training or deep self-education
  • Ability to learn, lead and execute detailed instructions in an efficient manner
  • Strong interest in innovations in sustainable agriculture& our farm system
  • Curious, reliable, punctual, productive and responsible
  • Capacity to care deeply for our land, plants, animals and community

Desired:

  • Experience with pigs, cattle and fowl and low till/no till vegetable production system, especially an intensive market garden style
  • Experience installing, operating and maintaining irrigation and facilities
  • Strong executive functioning skills, especially organization, cleanliness
  • Familiarity and interest in operating BCSs and other small engine machines
  • Interest in attending some farmers markets, CSA and farmstands

Day to day responsibilities: Lead small team of fellow farmers in bed prep, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, washing vegetables, farmers markets, food distributions and greenhouse work. Some independent work expected, especially farm walks, observing and responding to ever changing farm conditions. Work with Farmer Baylee in setting the weekly and daily farm goals. Work with Farmer Quinn on facilities and irrigation installation, operation, and maintenance. Supervise the farm 1 weekend per month, including chores.

Compensation includes a private, lovely apartment on farm, food, salary and sick leave. 1 week paid vacation will become available after 4 months. Full time (36-45 hours) April-Thanksgiving, December-March flexible based on your interests and our needs. Including all benefits, compensation will be between $17-$37 per hour depending on experience and responsibilities. Base pay will be above $17/hr. We request a 1-year minimum commitment.
