At Sugar Camp Farm we strive to bring you high quality produce while farming as sustainably as possible. We are a very small family farm with up to 3/4 acre under cultivation at peak season. We grow a variety of vegetables and herbs for market, chefs and other local organizations. We are slowly working towards a no-till system and we’re working towards building and preserving soil biology, chemistry and structure to bring you highly nutritious and flavorful food. We are currently looking for a full time assistant field manager. The job is located in Ashland City, TN just 25-30 min from Nashville.
The assistant farm manager will assist the managers in carrying out every day farm activities including prop house tasks, field activities, harvesting, post harvest handling, deliveries, farmers market, and on farm projects and maintenance. We are looking for candidates who are punctual, pay attention to detail, are problem solvers, take direction well, are proactive, love teamwork but can also work alone, good salespersonship, enjoy and appreciate food, have fun, can handle hard work in extreme weather conditions, are physically capable of lifting 50 pounds safely and repetitively, are good communicators, have a positive attitude, and are excited to learn! As an assistant manager, you will have more responsibility and may lead the farm crew at times. Communication is extremely important for this position as you will be communicating with both the managers and the farm crew. In addition, we have 2 small children that may be around the crew occasionally, so crew members must be comfortable with kids. There will be a trial period to ensure it is a good fit for all parties.
Responsibilities and Duties
-Effectively and efficiently carry out day to day operations of the farm
-Learn and understand the farm mission statement
-Deliver vegetables on occasion to Nashville if needed
Qualifications and Skills
-Preferred 2 seasons or more of experience on another production farm/market garden
-Be able to lift 50lbs safely and with repetition
-Be able to work an 8 hour shift in all weather conditions
-Experience with a BCS tractor preferred
