Company description
Early Girl Farm is a small-scale organic farm owned and operated by a former Chef. We grow highly diversified vegetable, herb, and flower crops. We care deeply about the soil they are grown in and the people that we work with. We involve our employees in all aspects of the business from seeding the crops to selling them.
We openly discuss our cultivation practices and value the thoughts and ideas of our staff. We are members of the
Bionutrient Food Association and attend their soil conferences. We put into practice what we learn and strive to grow the highest quality produce possible. We are constantly honing our skills so the farm continues to be healthy, more productive, and better organized. We sell our vegetables to restaurants in Brooklyn and Long Island. We also run a CSA and a pop-up cafe to serve members during their weekly pick-up.

Job description
We are looking for a qualified candidate to work with us in the fields and in the kitchen at our farm from April Ist through November 18th.
There is an opportunity for long-term employment for the right candidate.
A positive attitude is imperative. We work hard to take the best care of our customers, soil, and plants. We have high-quality standards and are consistently working to improve our skills. The ability to communicate in a friendly-considerate manner and take corrective criticism is very important. Our goal is to craft a thriving ecosystem that takes care of the people and plants that live in it.
You must be open to doing everything from seeding, weeding, planting, and harvesting to preparing delicious food from all we grow in our pop-up cafe. Your day may start with harvesting 300 pounds of zucchini and end up taking orders, making crepes, and cleaning the kitchen at the end of service.
The ability to lift 50 pounds and work on your feet all day no matter the weather is imperative.
We try to keep our days to a nine-hour limit with a paid lunch break and smaller breaks throughout the day to give our bodies time to rest and replenish. You will work 5 days and have two consecutive days off.
The atmosphere at the farm is joyful. There is much to learn about vegetable, herb, and flower varieties as well as methods of soil balancing, small-scale intensive intercropping, bed rotation, harvesting, post-harvest processing, crop storage, and making value-added products from what we grow.
Farming and cooking experience is necessary. Your experience will reflect in your starting pay. A strong work ethic, desire to learn, ability to work well with others, and a positive attitude are also essential qualities for a candidate applying for this job.
You must also be willing to work longer hours in the summer. This is a farming job and, here in the Northeast, we have a relatively short window of time to cash in on the sun and summer temperatures.
Work/life balance is considered. We are open to accommodating our employees so they can attend summer events that their loved ones and friends have planned when possible.
We do not provide housing or transportation.
Please provide references with your application.
