Company description
Black Sheep Hill Farm is a diversified medium size farm in North East Dutchess County, NY. We currently breed a 60+ head flock of Black Welsh Mountain Sheep in a conservation breeding program, for wool and meat. We raise 2 litters of pigs a year and keep about 120 chickens for eggs. We maintain a small garlic and fruit production. While the farm is not certified organic, our work is based in respect for our environment, the land we get to farm, our livestock and the people we work with. Our team is made up of the farm's owners and a full time farm manager, who all live on the farm full time. We sell most of our product to local restaurants and direct through our farm store to the local community. We also have a close working relationship with our local food banks.
Job description
We are seeking a farm worker to work with the farm manager to run farm operation.
Job Expectations:
- Familiarity and comfort with animals
- Gardening knowledge
- Know how to use small hand powered hand tools
- Valid driver’s license needed for making deliveries
- Ability to lift 50Lb bag of feed
- Willingness to work in all weather
- Timeliness
- Light carpentry knowledge and ability to drive a tractor a plus
Job Characteristics:
- Part time position
- 3 days/20 hours a week
- Hourly pay about $20/hr, depending on experience
