Position Title: Catering Event Staff
Reports to: General Manager
Hours per Week: 10-40 hrs ; seasonal work May - October
Starting Rate: Hourly compensation varies, $15-$25/hr plus gratuity
Cooperative Description: Woodbelly Pizza is a worker-owned, farm-to-table catering cooperative that started as an outlet for CSA produce from a small farm in Northern VT. Now based in Montpelier, we specialize in providing experiential dining services for weddings, parties and events in the state of Vermont. We also sling our pizza at vending events and festivals throughout the season as well as local farmers markets and festivals. We take pride in our ingredients, sourcing freshly milled heirloom organic wheat from VT and Quebec, as well as organic vegetables and meats from partner farms in Central and Northern VT.
Event Staff Role Overview: Our cooperative operates under a multi-role model; There are multiple roles needed at every event and each event is customized to meet our clients needs. There are five main roles at every Woodbelly event. Depending on your skills and interests, you may wear one or all five of these hats at any given time throughout the season.
The five main roles are:
1. Service Staff / Front of House
2. Cook / Back of House
3. Pizza Maker
4. Ovens Operator
5. Event Lead
We travel anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours in one direction all over Vermont to build kitchens on mountains.
This position requires clear communication skills -- we will expect a Catering Event Staff to follow communication protocols in order to receive support when things go awry before, during or after an event to produce the best possible outcome.
This position requires that we work in various outdoor weather conditions. It is important to arrive to work prepared with a headlamp and a rain jacket, although we do try and have extras on hand and to support one another.
The ideal worker has professional experience in a team environment & a willingness to follow and develop protocols; familiarity with the faced-paced & performative demands of the catering industry; an appreciation for style, culture, creativity & innovation. Event Staff are responsible for:
- Communicating clearly and working well with the Event Lead to load equipment & food, be ready to depart with the crew to events
- Following and developing operational & safety protocols
- Provide attentive, friendly and professional service to clients creating a memorable event experience; including: menu and food descriptions, fulfilling customer needs, answering clients’ questions, bussing tables, maintaining an abundant food presentation
- Prepare the event space utilizing floor plans, BEO’s, timelines & work plans issued or communicated by Event Leads. This includes the physical movement of our equipment as well as tables, chairs, linens, dishware, silverware & other catering supplies
- Maintain open communication with your Event Lead & teammates regarding any food allergies or special needs
- Maintain high standards of safety & cleanliness in all work areas
- Participate in daily standups to communicate special details required for the event
- Follow opening/closing procedures & checklists
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Good Judgment and problem solving skills
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs
- Ability and willingness to sometimes work long and late
- Minimum 1 year service industry and customer service experience
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $15.00 - $25.00
