About the Role
The Common Market, a mission-driven distributor of local foods to communities in the Mid-Atlantic, Texas, Southeast, and Great Lakes, seeks a Customer Support Associate to drive wholesale sales of local food in order to achieve the organization’s mission: to strengthen regional farms while making local product accessible to communities and the institutions that serve them.
This inside sales position can be fully remote and the ideal candidate is located near one of our hubs (Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia). The Local Food Systems Customer Support Associate supports buyer partners across time zones (Eastern and Central) in the metro areas of New York, Philadelphia, DC, Atlanta, Birmingham, Houston, Austin and Chicago.
The ideal candidate is able to both administer sales activities and brainstorm innovative ideas to improve our customer relationships. Ultimately, you will drive growth to our organization by cultivating and generating new opportunities within our existing customer base and serving as an essential part of our sales team. Location: Remote, with preference for candidates located near Atlanta or Houston
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm (daily schedule subject to slight changes based on organizational needs)
Essential Job Duties with direct supervision:
- Generate revenue by promoting sales of new and existing products to our active customer base.
- Initiate calls and emails to existing Common Market customers to assess the need for sourcing local product and replenishing inventories (communication is primarily via phone or email).
- Communicate and reinforce organizational mission along with nuances of local food supply chains to food buyers and chefs
- Process orders: perform order entry, review for correct pricing, quantities, and shipping data
- Observe changes in inventory to ensure adequate availability
- Maintain internal databases with accurate account information
- Provide ongoing customer support and troubleshooting on existing accounts including: advising customer on changes in availability and order modification, alerting customers about potential delays or routing requests, initiating routine check-in calls to solicit feedback
- Share customer feedback to Warehouse, Marketing, Sales and Procurement teams and work collaboratively to create solutions
- Support sales and finance function by communicating with customers and their account payables teams to ensure timely payment of invoices
- Monitor routes and troubleshoot customer deliveries
- Work with marketing on product sampling
Requirements
- Experience taking customer orders and/or experience in procuring products to maintain inventory
- Ability to generate revenue and/or create partnerships across the food value chain
- Understanding of local farm food and produce
- Thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- A clear, collaborative communicator
- Excels in balancing the needs of multiple departments while supporting our customers/producers
- Extremely attentive to detail and ensures accuracy in all work assignments
- A team-player with a positive attitude and ability to handle difficult situations
- Demonstrated technical skills using a variety of applications: Google Suite, Drop Box, Salesforce, Inventory Management System, Routing software, MS Office, etc.
- Comfortable working consecutive hours behind a computer screen
