Job description
Hope & Main’s on site markets and events are a significant part of our community-facing initiatives. The Market & Pop up Coordinator organizes and implements specific objectives for weekly Schoolyard Market (Wednesdays, June - September), once-monthly Meet Your Maker Markets ( Wednesday , Nov - April) and other special events that provide direct to consumer sales opportunities for Hope & Main members.
This position is funded by the USDA’s Farmers Market Promotion Program grant (FMPP) to support Hope & Main’s nonprofit mission and related initiatives.
Objectives & Responsibilities:
This role is a fit for someone interested in supporting and strengthening the relationships that food producers have on our local food system, supply networks, and consumer demographics.
Hope & Main’s on site markets are an integral part of our signature business incubation program, combining comprehensive entrepreneurial education with realistic consumer engagement opportunities. The Market Coordinator will handle all aspects of planning, mapping, hosting, and ensuring the smooth running of each weekly or monthly market - from reviewing the member business applications, to booking the stalls on a map, implementing exciting programming for all ages during the market. Working with our marketing team, they will also help promote and advertise each event and communicate its significance to the guests.
Responsibilities & Productive/Relevant Duties
- Serve as primary contact for market and event vendors
- Organize vendor schedule and comprehensive logistics for all markets
- Lead the setup, management, and breakdown of Hope & Main’s farmers markets
- Coordinate and Manage market/event volunteers
- Grow volunteer roster
- Develop and schedule educational market demos and activities
- Organize and implement in-market programming per the parameters of our USDA FMPP grant, which includes cooking demonstrations, games, contests, and educational activities
- Collect detailed market-related data as stated in our USDA FMPP grant via University of Wisconsin’s MiFi program, including data related to revenue, vendors, permits, attendance and sales.
- Report sales data to Farm Fresh RI regarding the Fresh Bucks/FINI grant program
- Maintains event and market-related materials, tools and supplies
- Collaborate on weekly marketing & promotion tasks including distributing flyers to local businesses as well as posting to online groups and e-calendars
- Works with the Hope & Main incubation program manager to help Hope & Main vendors utilize markets as a platform to grow their company
- Works with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop content such as newsletters to promote upcoming events.

- Strong oral and written communication with good grammar and tone awareness
- Exceptional organization and planning ability demonstrating effective project coordination, facilitation, and implementation
- Wednesday night availability
- Genuine interest in food and agriculture
- Customer service skills, committed relationship manager
- Experience in event management and/or farmers markets
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs (pop-up tents, tables, signs, yard games, etc)
- Ability to withstand varying outdoor conditions for 8+ hours (we are rain or shine, year-round)
- Confident computer user (Popular social media platforms, Microsoft Office, Google Drive, data entry)
- Adaptable, composed under pressure
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
