SCRIBE Winery is a 250-acre farm in Sonoma Valley, California. There are 55 acres of vineyard planted to different wine grape varieties. On the farm there is also an olive grove, various fruit trees, an organic garden and chicken coop that provides fresh produce for our tasting rooms. SCRIBE produces wine, olive oil, and verjus along with all of the fresh produce that we grow and share with our guests. The property has a rich and complex history dating back to the 1850's when it was first planted to vineyards.
Job description
The Cellar Intern’s role will be to assist the full-time production team with the most central tasks associated with winemaking during the harvest season. This includes a particular emphasis on fruit processing, fermentation management and sanitation. These positions will be involved hands-on in the day-to-day functions, problem solving and logistical coordination of shepherding our wines from their intake as grapes through the conclusion of fermentation, across a wide array of different wine styles and varieties. This job requires a strong work-ethic, ability to work long hours, good listening skills and a keen attention to detail.
Essential Functions:
- Participate in all cellar functions while maintaining a good attitude
- Operate all cellar equipment including pumps, presses, pneumatic punch down devices, forklifts and more
- Regularly collect samples from grape to bottle
- Extensive cleaning and sanitizing of all kinds of equipment
- Ensure all barrels, full and empty, are sound and sanitary.
- Participate in the regular sulfur/topping schedule and maintain empty barrels (VA check, monthly sulfite doses, periodic steaming, etc.)
- Participate in all bottling activities on the cellar floor during bottling days
- Help organize and maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Willing and able to work alone and as part of a team

- Works safely and respectfully being constantly aware of potentially dangerous machinery and hazardous chemicals found in winery. Consistently abiding by all safety & health standards
Required Experience
- Some winemaking education and/or previous experience in wine production or vineyard scouting is strongly preferred. An excitement to learn and be a part of a team making high quality wines is required.
- Willingness and flexibility to work overtime during harvest and as needed
- Flexibility in taking on other tasks and responsibilities as needed, such as assisting with bottling or vineyard sampling
- Attention to detail
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Because our business is located in an area without access to reliable public transportation, we only recommend that applicants with access to a vehicle apply

Schedule / Requirements:
- Position will start on July 31st with the potential for some work in July pending production needs
- Position will go through October with the potential to work additional weeks pending production needs
- Monday through Saturday 6:00 am – 6:00 pm
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires working in cellar setting inside and outside. It includes sitting at a desk or working on a computer/keyboard, standing on or climbing ladders, lots of walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.

Position Type/ Work Hours:
This is a seasonal full-time, non-exempt position averaging approximately 50-70 hours per week. Regular schedule is Monday through Friday. 8:00 am – 5pm., with the added flexibility of having to work extended hours and 6-7 days a week during harvest. Must be comfortable in a variety of work environments including wineries, vineyards, offices, outdoor and off-site locations. Must be able to work extended hours (6-7 days a week during harvest).
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
