Moxie Ridge Farm & Creamery is a trans-owned, small-scale farm and goat dairy on 46 acres in Washington County, NY. We produce farmstead cheeses in our licensed on-farm creamery as well as exceptional terroir-driven meats in our pastured and rotational systems.
We take a pre-industrial approach to our food production as well as all our animal management and land stewardship; it is our daily commitment to these concepts along with a focus on historical food and farming traditions that make our meats and cheeses truly exceptional. The Surroundings
Situated on a ridge overlooking the Adirondacks, Moxie Ridge offers jobs with a view! From Spring through Fall, it's not uncommon to see hot air balloons floating over the mountains while hooping cheese or moving goats. The farm is 30 minutes from Saratoga Springs to the Southwest and 20 minutes from the Vermont border to the East. We're surrounded by parks perfect for hiking, swimming, climbing, or kayaking. After a day of work, drive 20 minutes to relax on one of Lake George's tiny islands, or head to Saratoga for dining and nightlife. Job description We are looking for a part-time Creamery Assistant to join our small team. Working in our licensed on-farm creamery, this role will work directly with the cheesemaker to create farmstead goat cheeses and keep our creamery sparkling in between batches.
A typical day as a Creamery Assistant can include moving milk, culturing a cheese batch, hooping, brining, and packing cheese as well as affinage (cheese aging). Other typical tasks include washing up cheese forms and equipment after a cheese make, keeping inventory on creamery ingredients, organizing pasteurization records, and making sure the creamery is clean and tidy.
Ideal candidates will be passionate about artisan cheese and the idea and execution of making foods from scratch. They will have a solid understanding of food safety, the willingness to learn more, and the drive to get things clean. These attributes plus ability to work independently are the key to success in this role. Individuals with an interest or background in STEM do very well in the cheesemaking world, but it is not a requirement.
Timeliness and good communication skills are a must.
This is a very physical role, requiring the Creamery Assistant to be on their feet while working. Lifting 40lb - 50lb buckets is a regular requirement and any candidate should be able to comfortably do this.
The farm and creamery are located in a rural area with no access to public transit, therefore it is recommended that only candidates with access to a vehicle apply.
The Creamery Assistant role is part-time 20 - 25 hrs/week and starts at $16/hr in Argyle, NY. Compensation this position is : hourly, $15-20/hr Application instructions
