Pixie Scout Canteen is our seasonal outpost in The Battery (May 1 to October 31). Featuring simple, delicious seasonal fare and local brews, cider and wine, we are the last hospitality stop at the tip of Manhattan. Our seating is fully outdoor in the park, but the food and beverage program is run from two beautifully designed kiosk structures.
Pixie Scout is seeking folks who are experienced in and passionate about food and hospitality to staff our seasonal Canteen operation. You will join our team in mid-late April for mandatory orientation and training. This is a fast paced job that includes all elements of food and beverage service plus some occasional public park variables! Your responsibilities will include the daily setup and clean up of our outdoor seating areas, barista service, bar service, food warming, point of sale management, customer service and the occasional bit of raking :)
The job requires a love of food and beverage service, strong communication skills and a commitment to detail. We are looking for folks who are eager to learn and great team players -- it takes a strong team to maintain our sweet hospitality vibe in the park. Scheduled start date is April 15 with 10-20 hours of paid mandatory training between April 15 and May 1.
You are:
- Passionate about food – you love food, and you’re invested in learning more about food preparation and local, equitable food systems.
- Communicative – you communicate clearly with your team to ensure smooth service, and are ready to ask questions and ask for help when needed.
- Clean and fastidious – you are: diligent about proper hygiene and maintaining a clean, orderly station; familiar with and compliant to DOHMH standards and policies; detail-oriented in the execution of dishes, and passionate about food and food presentation.
- Quick and efficient – you are: equipped with an excellent sense of timing; able to meet service deadlines; motivated to move through tasks quickly; flexible and adaptable in technique and workflow so as to “work smart, not hard”.
- Professional - you are willing to interact with customers in a public park setting and able to maintain professionalism in and around the workplace as a representative of Pixie Scout.
- Friendly, positive, and supportive – you treat other team members with respect and care, and seek out ways to help and support other team members.
Job requirements:
- 18+ years of age
- 1-2 years of professional food service experience
- Understanding of and adherence to NYC DOHMH standards and policies (Food Protection Certificate, preferred!)
- Able to stand for at least 8 hours and complete tasks that may require lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Barista skills are a plus!
- Knowledge of wine and beer is a plus!
- Multilingualism is a MAJOR plus!
Job details:
- 6-8 hour shifts for up to 40 hours a week, Sunday-Saturday
- Starting pay: $20.60/hr

Compensation
