Internship description
We are looking for 4 people to join our team for the 2023 harvest season at our winery in Richmond, California. Our winemaking practice is zero/zero - nothing added, nothing taken away - organic grapes only.
Our ideal team has a mix of winemaking experience - so we’ll be looking for people both new and with multiple years of harvest work behind them. We know the wine world can be pretty pretentious and exclusive. We are committed to changing that by making all facets of natural wine accessible and enjoyable for more people, starting with what goes on in the cellar. We’re here to teach you what we know and learn from you too.
Our ideal candidates are comfortable with long days and hard work. This position will start in early August and will likely go through October, but that is not guaranteed as it is dependent on grape harvest timing. You can expect to work 8 - 12 hours per day, 5 - 6 days per week. Your days will be filled with a lot of physical labor - cleaning tanks, digging out fermenters, meticulously cleaning equipment, lifting/moving bins, and more. We do our best to make the long days fun though - regular team dinners, after work drinks, and other winery outings.
As a seasonal team member, you will be helping us make a lot of wine. Our winemakers and team will teach you what you need to know to perform your daily duties.
- Facility & equipment cleaning
- Fermentation management - pumpovers, punchdowns, etc.
- Brix & temperate checks
- Digging out & pressing tanks
- Heavy lifting & machinery operation
Qualifications
- Curiosity/interest in natural wine
- Great team player
- Takes instruction well and comfortable asking questions when unsure
- Willingness to operate heavy machinery - forklift experience/skill is a big plus
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Willingness to work 10+ hours per day
This is a non-exempt, full-time position with a compensation rate starting at $22 / hour and ranging DOE. You can expect to work at least 40 hours/week and may be expected to work additional hours during heavier times. You will be compensated at an overtime rate once you exceed 40 hours per week.
This position will primarily be located at our winery in Richmond, California. We do not provide local housing, however we can help you find something should you need it.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $20/hr +
