The Cheese Shop of Portland is a neighborhood specialty food shop in Portland, Maine's bustling East End. Our standard is to match our thoughtful hospitality with an equally focused world-class selection of cheeses, charcuterie, beverages, chocolates, sandwiches, along with pantry items such as olive oils, preserves, pastas, spices, and more while turning the idea of the stuffy, snobby cheese shop on its head.

Job description

We are looking full-time (38.5 hours/week) or part-time (32 hours/week) cheesemonger/customer service associate to work respectfully with our experienced team. EXPERIENCE is not necessary, but the right attitude, integrity, and hardworking nature are a must.

While our cheese counter is at the heart of our shop, all mongers are trained throughout the shop to allow them to provide one-on-one service to our customers from the start to the finish of their shopping experience.

General duties/musts are as follows:

• Provide warm and engaging customer service throughout the customer experience; from cheese counter to register
• Helping customers make knowledgeable and informed decisions through honesty, integrity, and a deep passion.
• Unloading, receiving, and organizing deliveries of cheese and other specialty foods
• Maintain the highest level of food safety
• Drive, competence, and a self initiative to learn about all things cheese, wine, specialty food, and more (read: eat and drink lots of delicious things and talk about them!)
• Ability to multitask efficiently
• Willingness to support the sandwich/prepared foods counter when needed
• Packing, stickering, and stocking bulk food items
• Assist with creating cheese and charcuterie platters

Compensation

this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $17.00 - $22.00
