Description
The Assistant Harvest Manager works directly under the Harvest Manager and is responsible for managing the harvest crew while overseeing all daily harvest operations. The Assistant Harvest Manager must keep the crew motivated and on-task while in the field so good people management skills are a must. Labor is our biggest expense so candidates should be very comfortable directing and motivating others while simultaneously working to improve efficiency on the fly and troubleshoot problems as they arise. 


Responsibilities

  • Assist in running daily harvest operations while keeping crew motivated and on-task
  • Adhering to weekly harvest totals set by the Harvest Manager 
  • Training new crew members on harvesting techniques and crew expectations
  • Willingness to manage crew issues and work Harvest Manager to resolve them
  • Ensuring all harvest equipment (knives, bins, buckets, and tools) are properly put away and stored each day
  • During the season the Assistant Harvest Manager can expect to participate in other farm related tasks such as greenhouse work, transplanting and general field work 

Qualifications

  • At least 3 seasons on an outdoor vegetable farm (CSA farm experience preferred)
  • Ability to efficiently manage and motivate up to 15 people during harvest operations
  • Solid understanding of harvest methods for all common vegetables
  • Ability to identify all types of common vegetables
  • Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs 
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong leadership ability
  • An eye for detail and the ability to multi task 
  • Ability to operate tractors 
  • Ability to use tractor implements used in vegetable production a plus
