Queens County Farm Museum is one of the longest continually farmed sites in New York State, dating back to 1697. Today, the farm serves as a vital resource connecting people to agriculture and the environment, creating learning opportunities and conversations about biodiversity, nutrition, health and wellness, climate change and preserving local history. Queens County Farm Museum is a New York City Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places. Queens Farm hosts a wide variety of acclaimed education programs, public events and adult education programs. 

Job description

The Queens Farm Agriculture Department is looking for motivated, upbeat individuals to join the farm team during our busiest time of the season. Ideal candidates are positive and patient, with stellar people skills and a passion for local food and sustainable food systems. Knowledge about a variety of produce would be a great asset to our team as well as an interest in regenerative farming practices and working with a diverse public population.

We are hiring for two positions. Both positions, starting 6/15 and ending 11/3, require a Thursday and Friday schedule, 8am to 4:15pm. These positions will be based at our off-site locations Queens Borough Hall & Jamaica Hospital. We also have one 10am to 6pm shift available at our on-site farmstand on Sundays, until 11/12,

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Setting up, restocking, leading, and breaking down our on/off-site farm stands
  • Interacting with customers as a representative of Queens Farm in a positive, kind, patient, and informative manner
  • Inventory of farmstand supplies and communication for reordering
  • Communication with farmers in the field, if on-site, regarding farmstand produce needs
  • Act as liaison for Director of Agriculture at markets and communicate all necessary information
  • Record keeping and data collection of farm stand sales, nutrition assistance programs and other data
  • Cooking demonstrations (such as grilling peppers, making sauces, and cutting up fresh produce)
  • Additional related duties, as needed.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Valid driver’s license to be able to travel to off-site markets
  • Strong communication skills
  • Positive and patient attitude
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Passion for local food and knowledge about produce
  • Attention to time and efficiency
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions in a fast paced work environment
  • Farmers’ Market, retail, and/or service industry experience
