Community Food Program Coordinator Center for Land Based Learning

  • Date Posted May 26, 2023
  • Location Woodland, CA
  • Category Agriculture / Nonprofit
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description The Mission of the Center for Land-Based Learning is to inspire, educate, and cultivate future generations of farmers, agricultural leaders and natural resource stewards. We achieve this mission by providing experiential education programs for high school students (the SLEWS, Caring for our Watersheds, and FARMS Leadership Programs) and a beginning farmer training and development program for adults (the California Farm Academy). These model programs provide hands-on experiences through which participants develop leadership skills and create connections to environmental, agricultural, and food system careers. Our programs span more than 30 California counties and reach over 2,000 people each year. Job description

This position is focused on the Community Food Program within the California Farm Academy at the Center for Land-Based Learning.

The Community Food Program provides community outreach for the Center for Land Based Learning. Its goal is to inspire and educate the community in their role as land stewards and conscious consumers. The program connects the people growing the food with the people eating the food. By building this bridge, people better understand their local food system and how supporting local growers leads to a healthier society, economy and environment.

The program introduces beginning farmers in our urban farm incubator to the people living right next door. By making this connection, a community can work together to build a more equitable and resilient  food system and increase access to fresh, healthy food. Other program initiatives include: our Mobile Farmers Market which travels to low-income neighborhoods in Yolo and Sacramento Counties; our Community Food Ambassador project creates a network of advocates throughout the region; our Healthy Corner Store program increases access to fresh, local, sustainably-grown produce year-round at neighborhood convenience stores; and Community Connection events and workshops that bring a community together around local food and healthy eating.
