Job descriptionThe Test Kitchen Cook will play a key role in executing recipes for marketing purposes, as well as helping to ensure smooth sailing in our test kitchen based in Acton, MA. Under the direction of our top-tier culinary leadership team, you’ll cook both savory and pastry menu items for professional photo and video shoots, and cross-test new recipes, all the while helping us develop our sustainable and locally-focused approach to food and community.
The Role
- Manage all aspects of cooking for WECO’s photo and video shoots, including writing prep lists, shopping for groceries, executing recipes, plating, food styling and cleanup
- Daily kitchen maintenance, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and taking out trash
- Cross-test new recipes, including reheat tests and packaging configurations, under the guidance of culinary leadership
- Provide administrative support for development of menu content at each stage of the menu building process
- Meet deadlines and help the rest of the team do the same
Qualifications
- 1+ year professional experience as a line cook, chef, or recipe developer
- A strong understanding of current culinary trends and deep knowledge of ingredients and both savory and pastry cooking techniques
- Interest in food photography and food styling is a plus
- Ability to be on your feet for the majority of the day
- Ability to drive to WECO’s test kitchen in Acton, MA
- A collaborative team player, with great communication skills and an upbeat, can-do attitude
- Great attention to detail - this is a must!
- Ability to work within a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team environment where priorities can shift quickly
- An organized self-starter, with a natural ability to multitask
- Troubleshooter extraordinaire - no problem too big or small to conquer
- Experience calculating recipe yields, scaling recipes, and translating recipes for production purposes is a plus
- Proficiency in Google Suite is a plus
- Solid administrative management and IT competencies
- Curious - not afraid to ask questions, with a desire to grow and learn within the culinary department and WECO!
Compensation
- $20-25/hr, 3-4 days per week (weekdays, 9-5pm)
