Minifactory (cafe & grocery) homes V Smiley Preserves (jam company) in downtown Bristol, Vermont. This hybrid restaurant, grocery and production model hums with daily activity. 16 Main St (our location) has operated continuously as a bakery/cafe for over 4 decades.

V Smiley Preserves makes honey sweetened preserves. We specialize in intricate textured flavors, making no-added pectin preserves, investing in our local foodshed, and supporting organic growing practices.

Bristol Vermont is located in Addison County. The area is agricultural and adjacent to the mountain communities of Lincoln and Starksboro. We are a 40 minute drive to Burlington, 25 minutes to Middlebury.

Job description

Cook FOR MINIFACTORY

Position Overview

We’re hiring an attentive cook Minifactory. We will train excited new cooks and folks with either traditional restaurant or non traditional food backgrounds. We want to meet you!

Our menu is an all day style, mixing morning and afternoon foods. In summer, we extend our hours into the evening with a short dinner and dessert menu focusing on vegetables & local/seasonal fruit.

Our goal is soulful, flavorful, elegant food that we love cooking and brings comfort to our diners.  Plan on lots of herbs, aromatics and bright flavors. My passion is for produce and the menu centers preserves as a useful ingredient like the muscatel vinegar, chili flake, or fiery mustard oil that we pull from our pantries to lift dishes.
 

My influences include: Simon Bajada, Ruth Rogers, Sam and Samantha Clark, Amy Chaplin, Renee Erickson, Mark Diacono, Margarita Carrillo Arronte, Niloufer Ichaporia King, Ana Sortun, Lori Regis and Amaryll Schwertner.
 

My cooking reflects my time in the kitchens of The Whale Wins, Sitka & Spruce, LA’s Elf Café, and The Corson Building.
 

We occupy a unique space in Bristol. 16 Main St. has operated as a bakery/café for over 4 decades and serves a diverse clientele.
 

Community defines how we approach food and service. .


Workweek: This shifts depending on the time of year and how many other cooks are also working in the kitchen. Approximately 1 or 2 7-2:30/3 pm shifts.  A daytime prep shift. An evening shift on Saturday (done by 9 PM). Some shorter, mid day shifts supporting the line. Minifactory is closed Tuesday & Wednesdays. Staff must be available to work on the weekend.

We are flexible on hours (24-38 depending on time of year) and will work around a great candidate's needs.
