Attention Retail Grocery Managers and Directors: Are you an experienced food and grocery enthusiast who loves working with passionate, dedicated people? Do you have a talent for coaching and developing strong leaders? Do you enjoy travel and meeting new people? How would you like to apply your skills and experience to support socially responsible, independent, and community-owned grocery stores?
 

This position supports a network of amazing community-owned cooperative grocery stores, providing guidance and assistance to managers and co-op leaders. You will leverage your experience and skills to deliver sound strategic coaching, encourage adoption of good financial and operating practices, and help managers and staff run independent, profitable businesses that can have a huge impact the communities they serve.
 

This is an ideal position for retail and leadership development experts interested in having a direct impact on the success of food co-ops, their owners and customers, and their communities. Candidates must either currently be located in the Eastern or Central United States or be willing to relocate to one of these regions. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as account manager for select co-ops, communicating regularly with the assigned Designated Representatives (DRs) to keep them apprised of programs and services, deadlines, program changes, and relevant information.
  • Develop strategic plans to improve the aggregate financial performance of assigned co-ops by prioritizing targeted support to individual co-ops with opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Provide on-site and remote coaching, support and assistance to co-op managers and staff in pursuit of financial and customer experience goals and to allow for long-term organizational stability and continuity.
  • Recommend and help member co-ops adopt and utilize NCG retail tools and preferred practices, adhere to operating standards, and maximize the potential benefit and value co-ops can get from NCG programs and services through performance improvement.  
  • Facilitate and lead peer support and leadership development activities among assigned co-ops that address common needs and promote a strong peer network.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years of retail food store leadership experience.
  • Understanding of retail food operations, including retail financial analysis, P&L management and cash flow management required.
  • Supervisory experience, team-building skills and demonstrated ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders required.
  • Experience in developing strategic plans, budgets, and managing resources within budgetary limitations preferred.

Home Office Option: This position is eligible for a home office in the contiguous Eastern or Central U.S. if within 100 miles of a major airport and there is sufficient internet bandwidth and mobile phone service for work to be completed efficiently.

St. Paul is part of the major metropolitan area which along with Minneapolis is known as the Twin Cities.
