Oʻahu RC&D is seeking a highly-motivated individual who is passionate about climate smart agriculture to support us in providing technical assistance, field sampling, and outreach to agricultural producers as part of the USDA Climate Smart Commodities Project. The position will begin on July 3rd, 2023.Oʻahu Resource Conservation & Development Council is an independent non-profit entity with a 25-year track record of providing conservation planning and other natural resource management tools to farms and ranches in Hawaiʻi.The USDA Climate-Smart Commodities project provides grants to partners to implement large-scale pilot projects that create market opportunities for commodities produced using agricultural (farming, ranching or forestry) climate-smart practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions or sequester carbon. Climate SmartCommodities have a three fold benefit -increasing productivity and incomes, enhancing resilience of livelihoods and ecosystems, and reducing and removing greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere.Location: field locations on Oahu, office location in Kunia with hybrid work options available with supervisor approvalDuties and Responsibilities● Provide technical guidance, recommendations and support to producers implementing, developing and/or implementing agricultural practices that aim to increase soil carbon and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.● Perform community outreach through the Climate Smart Commodities project● Collect soil and greenhouse gas samples● Provide quarterly reports to the organization project lead, lead Climate Smart Specialist, and program manager that includes the producer and site, acreage, status of practice implementation, status of sampling, work to be done within the next quarter, a cost report of the practice implementation, and additional commentsMinimum Qualifications● Bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences, environmental sciences or related field● Experience in tropical or semi-tropical agricultural systems with deep understanding of climate smart agriculture concepts● Relevant experience working with agricultural producers and practitioners● Computer skills, communication, writing and presentation skills● Readiness to carry out visits to project sites and travel as required● Capacity to conduct field work, and soil and greenhouse gas sampling under field conditions (including ability to lift ~30 lbs equipment)● Flexibility and adaptability to work in emergency situations with tight deadlines● Excellent team-building and cross-cultural skills● Interpersonal and communication skills and experience in working with a wide range of individuals at high levels in government, private sector and civil societyCompensation: $54-62k/yr based on qualifications and experience, plus benefits according to policy.Please note: To ensure a timely July 3rd start, we are planning to hold interviews on June 8th and 9th, 2023 at 8am, and on June 9th at 12pm. Compensation
