Job description
The Food Rescue Driver is a key team member in our food rescue network. This position is part of SHA’s Operations team and reports to the Food Network Manager. Central to this role will be ensuring the timely, accurate, and efficient pick up and delivery of food donations.
Food Network Driver Responsibilities:
- Drive vehicles in the SHA fleet including a sprinter van, a commuter box truck, and a 26 ft. box truck - with potential for additional vehicles
- Provide timely and accurate pick-ups and deliveries of food based on schedule
- Loading and unloading donations which may include packing donations into boxes, weighing donations on a scale or pallet jack, moving pallets, lifting boxes, etc.
- Operating in a warehouse and moving donations to appropriate warehouse storage
- Check daily and weekly schedule and clarify any questions before and during routes
- Accommodate last minute changes or additions to daily route schedule
- Ensure timely communication of food rescue issues or observations
- Act as a good representative of SHA during driving and warehouse work
- Accurately track and submit weekly driving hours to ensure compliance
- Maintain all required driver documentation including daily driving logs
- Ensure proper and timely reporting of pounds and meals picked up and delivered
- Complete any other duties as required to ensure effective SHA driving operations
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience driving commercial vehicles required (CDL license is not required)
- Confident driving a 26-ft refrigerated box truck and a refrigerated sprinter van
- Clear background check and driving record - This role does interact with vulnerable populations and enters spaces such as women’s shelters and schools.
- Timely communication skills
- Comfortable utilizing manual and battery operated pallet jacks
- Ability to follow safe operating practices while driving and in a warehouse
- Ability to complete any required (legally or SHA mandated) tests and documentation for driving
- Pleasant and professional demeanor with ability to interact effectively with a variety of partners (food donors, agencies, etc.)
- Ability to perform physical labor which may require bending and lifting loads of up to 50 pounds.
Compensation & Considerations:
- Salary is $45,000.
- Benefits include PTO, a 403b plan, and an annual HRA health stipend.
- Working hours may be Mon-Fri 8am-6pm. Weekend hours may be required periodically.
