Description:
This is a FamilyWorks position, in partnership with Seattle Public Schools. The School Community Resource Navigator will meet the basic needs of students and families mainly in the Broadview Thomson community and North Seattle at large. They will perform a needs assessment, and refer, apply, and enroll families in various public benefits, programs, and resources - onsite during drop-in hours at our satellite Family Resource Center, virtual settings, and at other locations. The employee will learn and enhance skills that promote anti-racism and cultural competency. The employee will be skilled at fostering community partnerships for the benefit of FamilyWorks’ participants. The School Community Resource Navigator will also participate in ongoing trainings that helps the person in this role stay updated on changes in benefits eligibility, process, policies and other tools. The position will take place at the school site up to three (3) days every week. Looking for an enthusiastic professional who is organized and capable of building strong and positive relationships within the school and in the community. This position is grant funded by Kaiser Permanente.
Responsibilities:
- Support families to enroll in public benefits like SNAP, WIC and other types of programs to help families meet their basic needs.
- Provide assessments and screen families for other eligible programs and provide application assistance when needed.
- Coordinate different site operations including updating resource maps, work with school staff, and do outreach to families to ensure they’re aware of available community resources.
- Ensure materials shared with families at the school are updated and translated into the top-requested languages at the school.
- Create a welcoming and accessible environment for families to receive support.
- Participate in various school and community events to connect with families.
- Develop and strengthen community partnerships to help expand on other community resources.
- Utilize various software for tracking participant information and to send referrals to other community partners.
- Develop strong relationships with the families and students from diverse mix of backgrounds.
- Collect feedback and track data on participant service access and enrollment rates.
- Receive ongoing training regarding social service programs and best practices.
- Participate in staff, school and other partnership meetings.
- Sort, collect and distribute items for families such as diapers, hygiene items and more.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Be culturally and linguistically competent for priority populations being served. Spanish and speaking preferred.
- Experience working within a school setting and working collaborative with others.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Psychology, Education or related field; or 4 years’ experience providing human services to a diverse community; or a combination of education and/or training and/or work experience which provides the ability to perform the work.
- Have experience working with families who face language barriers and people from marginalized populations.
- Self-starter and motivated, with an appetite for learning.
- Possess and/or be willing to acquire engagement skills such as: active and empathic listening, responsiveness, de-escalation and trauma-informed care.
- Be organized, have coordination skills and pay attention to detail.
- Have extensive knowledge of available social services.
- Can work and adjust to different settings, maintain focus, and is highly flexible.
- Comfortable working in a shared workspace
- Microsoft Office and basic computer skills required.
- Must have access to reliable transportation throughout North Seattle.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs

Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
