Pizza MODA is seeking an experienced, smart, creative, hard working, chef for a fun and approachable new 75-seat pizza restaurant in Berkeley - think Dopo, Pizzaiolo, Gioia, Boot & Shoe and the café at Chez Panisse. The menu will be built from local, seasonal, fresh ingredients with a focus on uncomplicated and delicious.
We are a Certified Green Business, and are serious about sustainability, organics, and clean business practices.
We are going for a warm, casual, neighborhood vibe -- family/kid friendly, bustling, definitely not precious or pretentious, but with a sense of style, smarts, and surprise.
In addition to designing simple seasonal menus featuring 6 starters/salads, 6-8 pizzas and 3 pastas,
Chef will be responsible for managing all aspects of kitchen operations including but not limited to, ordering, inventory control, food-cost analysis, kitchen staff training, management and scheduling.
The ideal applicant has a strong working knowledge of seasonality, is extremely food passionate and is an effective communicator with the ability to teach and lead. We plan to offer some vegan options, so please be comfortable with that...

The restaurant - in a desirable location on a highly visible Berkeley corner - has an extensively equipped kitchen with a 2-deck Montague brick pizza oven, 60-quart Hobart mixer, 12-burner Wolf range, Frymaster deep-fryer, Salamander, Manitowoc ice machine, three-door True freezer, refrigerated prep tables, a large, very clean walk-in fridge and all relevant small-wares.
Back-of-house has loads of shelved storage, a linen room, a temperature-controlled wine room, tool-room, and more. The 75-seat dining room is beautiful, bright and open,This space housed my popular, fast-paced, profitable restaurant for several years. Seeking to re-energize things, I'm going to refresh the space with a new name and solid, pizza-focused concept.
