Summary:
The Greenacres’ Garden Production team is looking for a Garden Production Assistant. This position will be employed at our Indian Hill location. This position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of garden production as well as supporting the Agriculture Education team with hands-on needs and programming.
The Garden Production Assistant will immerse themselves in a diverse array of learning opportunities, including gaining insights into generative vegetable agriculture, acquiring hands-on experience from seed cultivation to final sales, mastering both indoor and outdoor vegetable production techniques, participating in cut flower cultivation, and embracing holistic livestock practices.
This position will have the opportunity to participate in many farm projects being built from the ground up, a unique opportunity for any grower.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with all aspects of production, including seeding, planting, cultivating, harvesting, and processing.
- Achieve weekly measurable goals
- Coordinate product delivery to the farm store and manage store inventory
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in produce wash, preparation, and storage areas
- Support weekend watering and field assessment as required
- Aid the Agriculture Education team with lesson planning, teaching asset development, and hands-on tasks
- Perform various farm tasks following standard operating procedures
- Assist in maintaining garden production records
- Ability to manage day to day work with instruction
- Drive to different Greenacres sites for various duties
- Independently participate in planting from inception to completion
- Manage pests and diseases under instruction
- Actively contribute to weekly meetings
- Execute irrigation with guidance
- Follow and implement fertility plans
- Willingness to complete farm education courses
- Educate visitors and guests about the garden's features, plant species, and sustainability practices
- Put up and take down plastic structures with instruction
- Other related duties as agreed
Requirements
- Knowledge and experience in the areas of vegetable production and distribution
- Knowledge of sustainable and generative agricultural practices
- Ability to work in dynamic and extreme weather conditions
- Capability to prioritize and multitask with minimal to no supervision
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments
- Ability to communicate information about garden production and harvest to visitors
- Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record required - everyone that works on the farm is required to drive the gators and trucks to complete duties of the job.
- Ability to lift, bend, and move equipment and materials commensurate with the position (up to 50 lbs. required)
- Ability to work additional hours (overtime) as needed during peak harvest season
- Commitment to working within a functional team and collaborative culture
- Ability to successfully pass a post-offer pre-employment drug test and fingerprint FBI background screen
- Ability to work with both internal and external partners with the same or very different backgrounds to ensure that all who visit Greenacres get the highest quality experience that addresses their needs.
