The Oregon Farmers Markets Association (OFMA) is a 501c3 nonprofit, grassroots organization, working since 1987 to support local agriculture and healthy communities by strengthening and promoting Oregon's farmers markets. Farmers markets support the local food system by creating economic bridges between rural and urban communities and incubating the next generation of Oregon farmers and homegrown food business owners. OFMA recognizes that farmers markets are part of an agricultural system based in a history of racism and oppression and that as a result, many farmers markets in Oregon are majority-white spaces and have not traditionally served Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) in our communities. Job description

The role of the Community Engagement Coordinator is to:

• Manage communications and community engagement for the Farmers Market Learning Network (FMLN), OFMA’s statewide community of practice for farmers markets. The FMLN consists of regularly occurring learning opportunities for market operators based on showcasing peer-led knowledge exchange amongst them and bringing in experts in four high-need training areas: organizational development, branding & marketing, new & beginning vendor support, and diversity, equity & inclusion.
• Promote OFMA and Oregon farmers markets by expanding our audience for social media, newsletter, google ads, and email audiences; and conducting marketing campaigns around membership and our workshop opportunities.
• Support colleagues in a variety of resource creation activities including visual design, writing, and assembling content.
• Share in development, distribution and tracking of internal and external communications, keeping OFMA’s board, staff and committee volunteers organized and in the loop.

This part time employee position will be 20 hrs/wk and will ideally begin in early November 2023. OFMA does not have an office and nearly all meetings, work and activities take place remotely. The role will include visits to farmers markets in Oregon, and occasional in-person meetings.

The ideal candidate(s) have an understanding and affinity for farmers markets and a team philosophy in line with OFMA’s organizational culture, which is flexible, trust-based, and rooted in connections.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

.2 FTE - Statewide Market Network Communications

• Promoting and increasing attendance at OFMA’s virtual workshops and statewide peer-to-peer sessions, and providing technical support for those events.
• In partnership with other staff, participating in and facilitating OFMA’s virtual workshops and peer sessions.
• Increasing market operators awareness and use of OFMA’s web resources and video library, and community listserv.
• Coordinating OFMA's Membership Drive in conjunction with the Board and Executive Director.
• Creating and sharing public news and updates about the FMLN via the web, e-newsletters, listservs, and social media.

.15 FTE - Statewide Digital Marketing Campaign

• Engage with stakeholders (farmers markets, partner organizations, etc.) to solidify messaging & collaborative goals.
• Develop communications content and collateral, and plan editorial calendar using the existing tools:
  • OFMA newsletter to spread awareness of farmers markets throughout Oregon.
  • OFMA’s website and resource library.
  • OFMA’s social media and online presence (IG & FB), including paid and earned media.
  • Electronic updates , posts to listservs, and other group emails as needed.
• Coordinating and implementing Oregon’s state-level celebration of National Farmers Market Week, with support from the Board.
• Promoting OFMA’s Membership Drive and keeping OFMA’s farmers market database, and online directory and map up to date.
• Monitoring OFMA’s “info@” email address, and being a “clearing house” for incoming stakeholder questions and media requests.
• Measure and report annual communications and community engagement impact.

.15 FTE - Media Design

• Creating and producing visual elements of written reports, virtual presentations, infographics, social media, and other visual content used to promote OFMA and Oregon’s farmers markets and their vendors. Build toolkits and other resources. Visualize data on farmers markets, and communicate program results with FMLN participants and the public.
• Create and maintain a library on OFMA’s website of information, resources, templates, tools, and guides that farmers markets use to inform their operations and make decisions.

• Knowledge and lived experience with facilitating anti-racism work, food justice work, and combating white supremacy in organizations and systems.
• The ability to cultivate a sense community that welcomes and takes care of highly diverse individuals; ability to help others feel a part of something larger than themselves.
• Skilled with Microsoft Office and GSuite programs, as well as applications typically used for communications: video conferencing (Zoom), website (Squarespace), membership management database (Wild Apricot), CRM (Mailchimp), social media (Facebook, Instagram).
• Excellent communication skills in a wide variety of contexts with emphasis on online, virtual formats.
• Ability to craft concise, approachable, and compelling messages and storylines.
• Comfort with being on video and hosting online meetings and workshops across large networks with a variety of stakeholders.
• Knowledge and experience working at farmers markets or doing other local food systems work.
• Outstanding organizational skills and project management with ability to be proactive with fellow staff to adapt plans, benchmarks, and goals.
• Being a vocal team member, supporting colleagues, fostering momentum, and celebrating collective achievements.

Compensation

this position is: salaried, $35,568* - $50,000
