Job description

Calling all food enthusiasts interested in working at the intersection of restaurant hospitality, culinary research and regenerative agriculture.

Blue Hill at Stone Barns is hiring for our FARMS Apprenticeship—a paid six month front-of-house apprenticeship.

About the Role

FARMS apprentices work with the front-of-house team at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, rotating through various dining room positions to expand their knowledge of restaurant operations. 

Apprentices receive specialized educational programming with the goal of developing interdisciplinary and firsthand food system knowledge. Through weekly readings, discussions, guest speakers and independent research projects, apprentices are exposed to themes including pasture-based livestock, regional grain economy, ecological fermentation and more. 

Apprentices spend 75% of their week working restaurant service in the dining room, and 25% of their time participating in educational programming and research. 

 

Restaurant Service:

  • Execute pre and post-service checklists
  • Participate in restaurant service based on role (backwaiter, runner, front waiter, etc). Tasks include: polishing silver and glassware, maintaining dishpit organization, crumbing tables and pouring water, greeting guests and assisting with arrival and departure, marking glassware and helping with beverage service, running food and clearing plates, and other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Attend service and beverage training and classes
 

Food System Education:

  • Weekly food & agriculture reading discussions 
  • Work alongside Blue Hill’s culinary R&D team with assigned research tasks 
  • Assist with basic hands-on food prep
About You:
  • An open mind and curious approach to life 
  • Flexibility of schedule, including availability on weekends and evenings
  • Guest-oriented approach and works well in a team
  • A high school diploma is preferred
  • The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow oral instructions
 

Schedule: Full-time, in-person, Wednesday through Sunday, including nights and weekends

Compensation this position is : hourly, $15-20/hr Application instructions
