Preble Street’s Emergency Food Services help meet the nutritional needs of our community members through our Food Security Hub, Mobile Food Services, Food Pantry, and shelter-based meal service sites. Preble Street has adapted how it provides food services to effectively meet the food needs of people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity—and our team of food services professionals work together in our innovative Food Programs toward achieving our goals to address and end hunger in our communities.

 

Preble Street’s Food Programs has a part-time Prep Cook position available to work as part of the collaborative team at the Food Security Hub and other Food Programs locations to ensure that our community members in need have access to nutritious, delicious food every day. In a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment, Prep Cooks have a hands-on role in the day-to-day kitchen and meal preparation and packaging tasks, providing guidance and training for volunteers, and assisting in various Food Programs tasks and in all Food Programs locations.

 

The schedule for this part-time (24 hours/week), 1st shift position is Sunday - Tuesday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Prep Cook qualifications include education, training, and/or work experience in food service operations, and alignment with Preble Street’s mission and understanding of social, economic, and food justice. Preferred qualifications include 1-3 years’ experience in commercial or institutional foodservice, or other relevant culinary experience.

 

Skills needed for Prep Cooks include the ability to maintain a clean and efficient kitchen operation while overseeing that all meals are prepared properly and served on time; strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work in a team setting with a diverse population; and ability to perform work according to safety rules and practices.

 

Consistent, reliable attendance at work as scheduled is required, and the ability to drive a small cargo truck, with a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record, is helpful.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a part-time, benefits-eligible position, with a pay rate of $19.91/hour.

 

This position is eligible for the part-time benefits program, which includes sick time and paid time off; eligibility to enroll in the 403(b) retirement plan with employer match; eligibility to enroll in the health and dental insurance plans with pro-rated premium contributions; and access to the Employee Assistance Program.
