Job description
Cafe Manager (Upper East Side)
The Cafe Manager will manage our Lexington Ave. (Upper East Side) location. We’re seeking someone who is excited to help us continue to build relationships in the UES community and set a standard of excellence our customers can count on. Variety’s cafe managers are responsible for providing excellent customer service and exemplifying the best coffee and tea preparation practices. In addition to leading a team, the manager will be responsible for maintaining the cafe’s overall cleanliness and NYCDOH readiness, inventory and schedule. Our cafe managers work shifts on the floor 4 days a week, in addition to one scheduled weekly admin day (5 shifts total). This is a full-time, hourly position reporting to the Assistant Director of Retail Operations.

Responsibilities Include:
- Leadership
- Cultivate a healthy and fun work environment in line with Variety’s values
- Lead by example in all aspects of customer service and in general
- Model a positive attitude
- Lead monthly staff meetings
- Set clear performance expectations for baristas and provide them with regular feedback
- Conduct bi-annual performance reviews with cafe staff
- Cafe Operations
- Manage and carry out cafe scheduling
- Oversee cafe’s overall inventory and ordering
- Ensure that the cafe is fully staffed (with occasional coverage of unscheduled shifts in the event of emergency)
- Be responsible for cash handling
- Store Facilities
- Keep cafe in constant compliance with NYC DOH standards, meeting highest expectations upon inspection
- Work with employees to ensure shift change cleanliness expectations are being met
- Ensure that any customer-facing area is always clean and presentable, including sidewalks and exteriors
- Coffee Quality
- Work with Retail Trainer and Coffee Department to ensure the quality of coffee drinks in the cafes
- Work with Coffee Department to ensure high level of coffee knowledge among staff
- Qualifications
- 3+ years specialty coffee experience required
- 2+ years management experience preferred, however, we will train the right candidate
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly
- Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly wage of $23.00 plus tips.
- Monthly, weekly, and quarterly bonuses ranging from $100 - $1000 pre-tax based on clear targets
- 40 hours paid time off per year after 90 days of employment
- Medical, vision and dental care coverage offered beginning 90 days from hire with an employer contribution of 50%

Compensation
