Flamingo Estate is seeking a Head Gardener/ Director of Horticulture, who has a passion for design and gardening.

Job description
Responsibilities
- Managing the day-to-day operations of the garden
- Lead all garden tours including educational storytelling around horticultural practices and the history of the estate
- Oversee a crew of up to 4 (or more for special events) including hiring and firing staff members as needed * General gardening and maintenance of the main garden and an adjacent office location – you will be the plant expert on a crew performing regular maintenance, as well as more complex install/design jobs
- Develop and maintain client relationships through face-to-face meetings with team and suppliers
- Source and purchase plant material at correct times of the season in accordance with projects/plant installation * Planning year-round seasonal planting and maintenance of the entire garden including a vegetable garden, orchard, flower garden, and native hillside.
- Manage the care for animals at the Estate (dogs, goats, chickens)
- Oversee all exterior lighting design including installation
- Assists teams with hands-on production work in preparation for (and during) regular photoshoots
- Assists teams with hands-on production work in preparation for events in the garden
- Harvesting fruit, vegetables, and flowers, and delivering them to the team for inclusion in recipes, decor, photoshoots, etc.
- Oversees beekeeper and honey harvesting (and participates in the management of the bees)
- Maintains regular contact with broader Flamingo Estate business team
- Manages the presentation of all uniforms and presentation of teams on-site
- Manage the garden budget and all staff and costs within it
- Reports problems and issues and assists with resolution
- Adhere to all safety guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment for the entire team
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $75,000 - $100,000
