Job Description:
This position includes work within Bumbleroot’s entire field operation with a focus on either vegetable production or cut flower production. Responsibilities will relate to field production, harvest, processing/packing and customer service. Crew members will participate in all daily activities on the farm including (but not limited to) seeding, transplanting, weeding, trellising, harvesting and processing both flowers and veggies. You will also be expected to set up irrigation, wash totes and flower buckets, support CSA and farmstand staff, pack wholesale orders, and interact with customers during CSA pick-ups, farm stand and delivery driving shifts.
Requirements:
Candidates must have at least one year of farming experience on a commercial farm. We are looking for candidates with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude, excellent listening and communication skills, and ability to work with efficiency in a team setting, day after day. Commercial vegetable and flower farming can be fun and fulfilling, but it is very physically demanding and can be monotonous and repetitive. Self-motivation, stamina and a drive to work hard are key to this position.
We value positivity, focus, speed, and attention to quality and detail in all of our team members. Applicants must be able to lift 50lbs. and be on your feet for 6 hours straight. We do not offer housing so reliable transportation to and from the farm is necessary (we are located 25 minutes from downtown Portland), along with a valid driver’s license for driving farm vehicles in the field and on delivery routes.
Work Environment & Schedule:
The job will be 8-9 hours a day, 5 days a week with a one hour unpaid lunch break. You will be expected to work one Saturday shift per month. Start times are early on harvest days during peak season (6am, 2-3 days per week), and other days of the week we start at 7:00am and work until 4:00pm. We work in all weather conditions.
Bumbleroot's daily field operations are led by Bumbleroot's owners and managers with whom you will work closely on a daily basis. There will be occasional independent work but most of your time will be spent working in teams (3 - 10 people) to complete a variety of tasks.
We pay overtime for every hour worked over 40 hours per week, and we offer paid time off among other farm benefits (a workers compensation package, food and flowers from the farm, etc).
