NAFMNP has entered into a Cooperative Agreement with USDA to provide support services for farmers markets and farmers to increase their participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and to develop new technologies to shift more federal benefits to an electronic format. We are hiring an Outreach Specialist to assist us in this work through the MarketLink project. Job description Are you looking for meaningful work in food access? Duties include:
- Becoming knowledgeable about federal nutrition benefits programs and the project;
- Researching and summarizing data on farmers, farmers markets, and utilization of federal benefits programs (including but not limited to SNAP and related to those under-served populations and entities as defined by USDA)
- Identifying opportunities to connect with farmers and farmers market operators;
- Developing and executing strategies to reach targeted areas for outreach and communications;
- Collaborating with team to ensure promotion of outreach opportunities;
- Identifying, connecting, and collaborating with community partners who can effectively connect farmers with identified communities in need
- Tracking and reporting on effectiveness of outreach strategies deployed
- Ability to engage with farmers, markets, and community organizations;
- Ability to manage projects with attention to detail;
- Strong communication skills - verbal, written and interpersonal;
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter with minimal supervision;
- Skilled at using data spreadsheets (Excel);
- Strong research skills;
- Experience with a variety of software services such as but not limited to DropBox, Slack, Canva, InDesign, etc. preferred;
- Experience working with diverse populations; and
- Willingness to learn the technicalities of federal nutrition benefits programs.
