This is a unique opportunity for a gifted baker and pastry chef looking to expand their skills and have complete creative flexibility without the risks of ownership. We are a small, artisan bakery in beautiful Central Virginia with huge growth potential, and are in need of a new head baker! For the right candidate, there is the potential for an ownership stake and/or profit share in addition to salary. Lynchburg is an amazing small town that has a low cost of living, beautiful historic and downtown districts, and was just featured in Southern Living for it's up and coming culture and attractions. 

For the position, here's what will be needed:
 

Responsibilities:
- Prepare and bake a variety of bakery items, such as croissants, pastries, cakes, and cookies-- Knowledge of sandwich making and 'light cafe' goods (salads, sandwiches, etc.)
- Follow recipes and ensure that all products are made to company standards
- Operate and maintain baking equipment, including ovens, mixers, and dough sheeters
- Monitor baking process to ensure products are baked to perfection
- Decorate and present baked goods in an appealing manner
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen and work area
- Assist with inventory management and ordering of baking supplies
-Coordinate events and cooking classes for the space with our event manager, as well as teach classes occasionally in our teaching kitchen. 

Experience:
-Professional pastry certificate or culinary school preferred.
-Previous experience as a head baker or in a similar role is required, at least 5 years
- Knowledge of food handling and safety regulations
- Strong understanding of baking techniques and ingredients
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet production deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Skills:
- Proficient in various cooking techniques, including measuring ingredients, mixing doughs, and operating baking equipment
- Familiarity with kitchen tools and equipment, such as mixers, ovens, scales, and knives
- Knowledge of food safety procedures and practices
- Ability to follow recipes accurately and consistently produce high-quality baked goods
- Strong time management skills to ensure timely completion of tasks
