Small Farm is a 3 acre mixed vegetable, berry, and cut flower farm run by Elena Colman and Karl Goethert. We are certified organic and use no-till methods to plant intensively for our three-season CSA, four-season farm stand, 2 farmers markets, and wholesale accounts. We are a for-profit farm with a mission to:
- Increase the seasonal availability of fresh produce in our area, and create excitement around healthy food

Job Description:
The Flower Manager will be responsible for harvesting and creating flower bouquets to meet the farm’s flower production goals, including bouquets for 3x 4-week Flower CSA programs (Spring, Summer, Fall), bouquets for 2 farmers markets and the farm stand, wholesale bouquets for a local coop, and wreaths for retail sales. The Flower Manager is responsible for identifying the weekly needs of all things flowers, including propagation, field preparation, fertilizing, planting, irrigation, and trellising.

You:
- Have at least one season of flower growing or arranging experience
- Are interested in expanding your knowledge and experience about flower growing and farm systems
- Are self-motivated to research new techniques and work efficiently
- Love being outside, even in extreme weather. You know how to dress to stay warm/dry/cool!
- Are able to bend, turn, carry, and lift 40 pounds repeatedly
- Are able to maintain a harvest position (squatting or bending) for a full morning
- Feel comfortable communicating your needs
- Receive constructive feedback well
- Understand the need for speed and efficiency, and actively seek ways to improve
- Are organized, punctual, and have reliable transportation to the farm
- Are comfortable working independently for hours at a time, working with a group, and instructing others to assist in flower production
Schedule:
The following schedule is required and will be entirely flower-focused. Additional hours are available, up to 40 hours/week from April through October but will involve other farm work including vegetable production and (limited) customer service in the farm stand. If full-time work is desired, this will be addressed during the interview process.
Length of position is mid-April through mid-December
Mid-April - end of April: 10 hours/week
May: 15 hours/week
June-October: 18 hours/week
November – mid-December: 15 hours/week
Compensation:
$18-20/hour depending on experience, access to ASCFG resources through farm membership, paid attendance at 4 hours of workshops, vegetable CSA share during CSA weeks worked, 25% employee discount on farm stand purchases, 18-40 hours paid vacation (depending on agreed upon schedule), up to 40 hours paid wellness leave to accumulate at a rate of 30 hours per 1 hour worked, workers’ compensation, and eligible for our retirement benefits program.
Compensation from this position qualifies for MassHealth or (in combination with other employment) ConnectorCare plans—excellent Massachusetts plans that have zero deductible. We are happy to provide assistance applying for health insurance through the MA Health Connector.
Compensation
