Job description

SUMMARY:

The Chef/Cook works under the supervision of the Director of Culinary Services and is a non-exempt employee. The position is responsible for maintaining the kitchen area in addition to the equipment and utensils in a clean, sanitized and orderly condition and assisting in the preparation and service of healthy, delicious meals.

REPORTS TO: Director of Culinary Services

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include but are not limited to):

● Prepare food for each meal shift, including chopping, measuring, preparing, seasoning and cooking ingredients

● Complete daily prep and cleaning tasks

● Employ healthy cooking techniques and adhere to designated recipes to ensure all menu items are consistently made and presented

● Ensure all food and other items are stored and dated properly

● Monitor inventory levels and receive deliveries, including verifying quality and accuracy of delivery contents

● Assist with the cleaning, sanitation and organization of the kitchen, dishes, surfaces and equipment

● Assist with any necessary work for facility garden

● Comply with all health, nutrition, safety and sanitation protocols as required by law and company policy

● Perform other kitchen duties as assigned by the Executive Director

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES (include but are not limited to):

● Safe and sanitary use of kitchen tools and equipment

● Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed

● Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to federal standards under the Code of Federal Regulations 42 Part 2 and HIPAA

● High standards and attention to detail

● Strong appreciation for fresh, local, nutritious food

● Excellent people skills with a compassionate and respectful demeanor

● Experience in organic farming preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

● High school diploma or GED preferred

● Three years of experience cooking in a professional kitchen. Fine dining preferred.

● Vermont Food Handler Permit

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICALDEMANDS:

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation:

● Ability to walk, stand, bend and lift for extended periods of time

● Perform weight-related functions, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
