This role is part of the KTC Accounting Services team and reports directly to our Director of Accounting Services. We are looking to fill this position in early January 2024.
- Create financial foundations for clients to stand on using KTC’s existing financial management structure and approach.
- Reorganize clients’ existing chart of accounts to fit KTC’s established COA standards.
- Develop and maintain QuickBooks Online files for clients, including enter in daily or weekly transactions; monthly reconciliations of bank, credit card, and loan accounts; post journal entries for certain accounting adjustments; forensic cleanup and troubleshooting as needed; and develop and execute monthly financial reporting packages and virtual client meetings to review them.
- Virtually teach and train clients through effective communication on business processes.
- Validate clients’ complete understanding of their financial systems by effective follow-through.
- Collaborate with KTC consultants to provide bookkeeping support to consulting projects.
- Work with the KTC Bookkeeping Team to further develop sustainable and repeatable financial practices and processes for our clients to use.
- Assist KTC consultants with advanced analyses of accounting-related subjects, development and implementation of complex accounting processes, curating relevant client-facing tools and resources, and other such collaborations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls, processes, and quality control measures for clients.
- Expenses and accounts payable: Collaborate with grant admin to properly record transactions and to pull financial information needed for grant reporting
Track expenses by relevant data such as fund source/donor, program, and restrictions.
- SOPs and Internal Controls Development, including develop and refine accounting processes for tracking grant funds; develop SOPs and internal controls to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial processes. Key focus areas examples: Tracking and applying labor costs to grants; and accounting for donations more efficiently; Prepare and deliver financial reports for other stakeholders - quarterly board meetings, ad hoc for grant applications; and refine accounting processes to achieve greater efficiency and visibility of company performance.
- Other Support & Engagement: Coach program directors related to managing their budgets and managing grant funds.
- Collaborate with program management regarding grant writing and accounting/financial implications of grant applications; research and advise on related matters.
Requirements:
- Senior-level experience as an accountant, controller, bookkeeping-practice owner, or similar position.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience utilizing QuickBooks, with at least one year of experience specifically with QuickBooks Online.
- One year of remote work experience.
- QBO ProAdvisor certification required (can be acquired after hire).
- Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office and Zoom.
- Ability to engage with clients by email, phone, and Zoom meetings.
- Must be comfortable working with multiple people, personalities, and levels of accounting knowledge.
- Ability to learn from, follow, and develop written procedures for internal work and as resources for clients.
- Fearless resolve to dig into clients’ books, determine the appropriate courses of action in concert with other team members, and educate clients on better processes as appropriate for their individual level of understanding.
- Ability to handle a multitude of disjointed tasks.
Other Skills & Useful Experience:
- Fluency in Spanish & English.
- Preference will be given to candidates with farming and agriculture industry experience.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Willing to learn and excel in online platforms for workflow and communication (Asana, Harvest, Slack, and others).
- Firm understanding of GAAP; CPA preferred.
- Nonprofit controllership experience preferred.
- Understanding of nationwide sales tax and payroll processes.
