Welcome in 2024 with a new opportunity in Charlottesville, Virginia.
We are seeking a creative, entrepreneurial, and passionate Executive Chef looking to make their mark in one of America's top-rated most livable cities. Home to the University of Virginia - proximate to Washington DC and Richmond – Charlottesville is a thriving town with a vibrant foodie culture, agricultural community, and academic and music scene. We seek a culinary leader who wants to build a best-class kitchen for this new restaurant opening in Spring '24. We are interviewing now! Serving breakfast, weekend brunch, lunch, dinner, and a robust bar menu - we are focusing on American comfort food with a creative twist to deliver a memorable and consistent guest experience.
Desired candidates will have:
- 3-5 years of experience as an executive chef or chef de cuisine in successful, noted restaurants. Open to a seasoned sous chef looking to move up.
- A true appreciation for food and cuisine.
- Prior experience expediting high-volume meal services.
- A history of successfully recruiting, training, and mentoring a diverse kitchen team.
- A well-developed business acumen. A bottom-line sensibility and cost-management mindset are valued.
- Fluid technical skills - Microsoft, google, Toast POS, etc.
- A genuine sense of curiosity and collaboration
- An unwavering commitment to personal accountability.
- Serious kitchen chops. Poseurs need not apply.
- New restaurant opening experience a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Culinary Leadership: Inspire and lead the kitchen team to consistently deliver top-quality dishes that align with the restaurant's vision and brand.
- Menu Execution: Execute menus that reflect seasonal ingredients, trends, and customer preferences. Maintain creativity and innovation in menu offerings.
- Quality Control: Maintain the highest food quality standards, presentation, and taste. Conduct regular kitchen inspections and tastings to ensure consistency.
- Vendor Management: Foster sustainable and effective partnerships with food suppliers to ensure best-in-class ingredients. Explore forward-thinking sourcing relationships with local farmers and makers to bring increased value and quality to the restaurant.
- Cost Management: Manage food costs effectively by sourcing ingredients, controlling portion sizes, and minimizing waste while maintaining quality.
- Staff Development: Recruit, train, mentor, and develop kitchen staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Be a sought-after kitchen experience for up and coming talent.
- Kitchen Operations: Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, including scheduling, ordering, inventory management, cleaning/maintenance, and compliance with food safety standards and industry best practices.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the managing ownership and General Manager and front-of-house staff to ensure seamless coordination between the kitchen and dining areas.
- Community Outreach: Willingness to engage with the community as an ambassador of the restaurant through educational experiences, mentoring, volunteering, etc.

Compensation
this position is: salaried, $50,000 - $75,000
