Company description
Maple Bank Farm is one of the oldest farms in Connecticut since the 1700s. Maple Bank is a 70-acre farm with 15 acres in production of diversified vegetables and fruits in Roxbury, CT. We also feature an apple orchard and PYO blueberries. In addition, we grow bedding and vegetable plants for spring and summer sales. The farm operates a charming roadside stand from April to December, where we sell our produce, flowers, plants, and local goods. We are a small team looking to add a few new crew members this season.
Job description
The next farm season is right around the corner and Maple Bank is looking to hire crew members to work in our field operations. Field hours are 7:00 am to 4 pm. Work for the field crew begins at the beginning of March but we will hire if needed into June. Fieldwork ends between November and December. We will usually have full-time members work until December and part-time finish earlier.
We also ask our field crew at times to help out with our farmstand. We have included typical farm stand tasks below. We are open to both full-time and part-time schedules. Pay rate ranges from $16-$19/hr.
We are looking for individuals who
- Can work independently and in a team environment
- Pay attention to detail and take care to make sure tasks are done properly
- Can work hard and efficiently
- Take direction and learn tasks quickly
- Can work in all weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc)(field crew only)
- Have a positive attitude/enthusiasm for farming/gardening/food production
Some typical Tasks for field crew:
- Harvest and wash a variety of vegetables and fruits
- Hand weeding and hoeing
- Transplanting (by hand and by tractor transplanter)
- Setting up irrigation
- Greenhouse seeding, transplanting, and watering
- Operating cultivating tractors
Some typical Tasks for farm stand crew:
- Be a warm and welcoming presence for our customers
- Handle customer questions and feedback
- Check customers out using Square POS
- Stocking sales area
- Organizing sales area, back room, and walk-in cooler areas
- Cleaning
- Packing wholesale orders
- Take item inventory
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
