Job description

Job Description—Our assistant winemaker will have significant responsibility as our second hire and effective second in command. You’ll be expected to be a bit of a ‘jack-of-all-trades’ and will wear a lot of hats throughout the year. This is a salaried role with generous benefits beginning in September when harvest would be starting and you’d properly playing the role of ‘assistant winemaker’. However, we’d ideally find someone to start on an hourly basis prior to harvest as we’re going to need assistance with popups/in the tasting room/sales/bottling/etc. in the interim as we scale through the spring and summer. If you know anything about winemaking you know there’s a lot of cleaning, and yes, assistant winemaker does involve it’s share of ‘cellar rat’ grunt work, but we also see the role as a leadership position and envision someone who will also be taking on responsibility with key winemaking decisions. Beyond harvest season is much of the same—we’ll need you in the tasting room at times or out making sales but also expect you to have a seat at the table as we make key decisions growing the business.

What we’re looking for:

  • We don’t believe in job requirements—we believe anyone with an interest in what we’re doing deserves the opportunity to make a case for themselves. We’d rather have a diversity of perspectives, passion for what we do, and a growth mindset over a certain set of experiences any day. We want the best people, not the best resumes. The job sound exciting to you? Let us know why you’d make a great addition to the community we’re building, and we’ll take it from there!

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be willing and able to work long, unpredictable hours on occasion (mainly during harvest). Including weekends and holidays. The rest of the year we typically try to keep to pretty regular business hours unless you’re working the tasting room/a popup.
  • Must be able to lift heavy weights (50+ lbs.)
  • Must be able to be on your feet all day (which may be >12 hours)—don’t worry, you can take breaks…harvest is just a demanding time of year and we don’t want to understate how strenuous it can be

What we offer (beginning 2024 harvest):

  • $65k base salary + profit share from mandatory 20% gratuity applied to all on-premise customer purchases
  • What we hope will be an incredibly fun, passionate, diverse team doing incredibly exciting work
  • The best parental leave policy you’ll find—get paid for a year’s work but only do half a year’s work (you set whatever schedule works for you!)
  • Generous PTO—20 days minimum, 30 days maximum (yes, you read that right, there’s a minimum—we’re anti-burnout here…unfortunately you can’t use this Sept 1-Thanksgiving, extenuating circumstances aside, just the nature of the industry)
  • We’re proudly employee owned—earn at least 1000 shares vested per year of service (subject to preferred shareholder approval if not previously allocated). I.e., after 3 year’s you’ll have at least 1 x 1000 + 2 x 1000 + 3 x 1000 = 6000 shares
  • The best healthcare we can offer in the messed-up healthcare system we find ourselves stuck with in the U.S.

What we offer in the interim if you’re willing to start sooner on mainly FOH tasks:

  • $20/hr. + mileage reimbursement + 20% mandatory gratuity tip share
Compensation this position is : salaried, 50k-75k Application instructions
