Company description
We are a small market farm just outside of Philadelphia committed to organic and regenerative farming practices.
Job description
Hayday Farms seeks an experienced farmer to serve as Vegetable Grower and Co-Manager of Vegetable Production in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a minimum of 3 years of organic vegetable production.
We are in our third year as a Market Farm and are currently in 3 weekend markets in Philadelphia and will be starting in 2 more markets in food deserts working closely with The Food Trust in Philadelphia. We are in the final process of consolidating our vegetable production from a second location. This year we anticipate having approximately 2+ acres under cultivation, including one 150’ high tunnel, cat tunnels, fields, and likely a new high tunnel.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable with a BCS hand tractor and several attachments as well as operating a tractor, installing above ground irrigation, putting up and moving cat tunnels and fencing, seed starting, hand planting, hand cultivating, harvesting, wash/pack and post harvest prep for markets. The candidate will have experience managing staff and agricultural interns from a local college and creating and using daily task lists. Most of all, the candidate will be an excellent communicator, a collaborative team player, and be able to effectively encourage team members.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and transportation. We are located in a rural area with limited access to public transportation. There may be occasional times when you are required to use a farm vehicle to fulfill job duties.
- Must be able to do all the physical things farmers do: lift 50+ pounds, dig trenches, use a post hole digger, and love working outside in all weather conditions.
- Must be committed to using organic, sustainable, and regenerative farming practices.
This person will have meaningful input on the ultimate layout and design of new farm infrastructure and processes for increased production. This is a great opportunity for anyone who has wanted to start a farm but doesn’t want to handle administration or sales.
