Chance Farm is a market farm located in Bozeman, Montana. Our mission is to grow high quality vegetables by following organic practices and good land stewardship to bolster soil biology. We grow 30+ varieties of vegetables on 4+ acres that we sell at Farmers’ Markets, restaurants, grocery stores, and a CSA.

March-May: 50-55 hrs/week: Monday - Friday
June - October: 40-45 hrs/week: Monday-Thursday (as needed: Friday)
November - Mid December: 30hrs/week)
Compensation: Starting at $20+/hr DOE
Position Summary
We are seeking a positive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated individual with strong communication and leadership skills to join us in the role of Production Manager. The primary responsibility of this position is implementing the crop plan on time. That involves carrying out bed preparation, and participating in and delegating the following tasks; transplanting, direct seeding, cultivation, weeding, irrigation and other crop maintenance. In this role you will work closely with the Farm Owner, Josh Chance, to ensure all critical tasks are completed to the farm’s standards and on time.
Responsibilities

- With the Farm Owner’s guidance, supervise and train crew in proper planting, direct seeding, cultivation and weeding.
- Prep beds for paper potting, hand transplanting, or direct seeding.
- With the assistance of the Production crew:

- Following the crop plan, carry out and document field paperpotting, transplanting, direct seeding, and cover cropping
- Coordinate large transplanting projects with Greenhouse Manager
- Work with Farm Owner to identify, track, document, and carry out cultivation and irrigation at the main farm and Three Hearts Farm. This includes routinely checking the crops' water needs, in the field and high tunnels, and checking that the irrigation system is functional.
- Share responsibility with Farm Owner & Greenhouse Manager to carry out liquid fertilization program for greenhouse crops as needed.
- Share responsibility with Farm Owner & Greenhouse Manager to identify, track, document, and carry out IPM.
- Baby greens Harvest: Lead and/or carry out solo on primary harvest days: Monday and Thursday
- Effectively communicating and delegating tasks to crew
- Co-lead crew in hand transplanting and weeding projects
- Report any materials or equipment repairs needed to the Farm Owner by the end of day.
- HARVEST DAYS: Join the crew to complete the harvest and packing on Monday and Thursday. On these days you will report to the Harvest Leads and Packhouse Manager, and only carry out time sensitive production tasks, e.g. irrigation and assist with opening and closing high tunnels.
Required Qualifications

- 3+ years working on 3+ acre vegetable farms
- 2+ years experience 4-wheel tractor & changing out implements
- 1+ years instructing, delegating, and checking in with crew with farm goals in mind. Aka: quality and efficiency in work with a focus on reducing waste
- 1+ years using a Paperpot transplanter
- Experience with any of the following equipment is a plus!

- 2-wheel cultivator or other cultivators, jang seeder, BCS, Quick Cut Greens Harvester.
- Required: Participate in Harvests, wash/pack, greenhouse work as needed.

- Experience with google sheets and docs
- Must be a problem solver
- Focus on efficient use, care, and maintenance of farm materials and equipment
- reliable transportation to the farm
- Valid driver's License with a clean driving record: Without any accidents, points or moving violations in the last 5 years. This is a requirement because you will be placed on the farm's auto insurance, and will be driving the farm truck to transport equipment on occasion.
- You must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Currently, we are not able to provide a work visa.
- Commit to working the duration of the season.

Additional Details
Reports to:
Production: Reports to Farm Owner. Many of your responsibilities will center around working and coordinating with the Farm Owner.
Harvest Days: Reports to Harvest Leads and Packhouse Manager for any harvesting.
Work Schedule:

% TIME SPENT: 60% Production -40% Harvest and Pack. Early season: 100% production and related tasks to season preparation
Compensation: Starting at $20+/hr DOE. Eligible for overtime.
