Job description
The Bakery Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of the Bakery branch of the Prepared Foods Department by coordinating and participating in daily tasks, supervising Bakery staff throughout the shift, in-the-moment problem solving, and resolving customer concerns. The Bakery Coordinator works closely with the Prepared Foods Manager to plan product offerings and control shrink. Success in this position includes ensuring all workers are well trained and supported, and that overall product meets standards for quality and food safety. The Bakery Coordinator participates directly in bakery production, and models proper technique and execution of each recipe.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Bakery branch of the Prepared Foods Department
- Coordinates and participates in daily set-up, production, and cleaning tasks
- Leads in-the-moment problem solving for product, equipment, and supply challenges by following basic troubleshooting processes, escalating as appropriate
- Resolves customer questions and complaints in a way that aligns with Co-op standards for customer service, asset protection, and staff treatment
- Supports Bakery staff by providing clear instructions, timely feedback, and appropriate redirection
Ensures that all workers are trained and supported
- Trains and models technique and professionalism for workers at all skill levels, and ensures that all training and redirection are documented appropriately to meet standards of compliance and best practices of performance management
- Participates in food production, demonstrating mastery of all techniques and executing recipes that model department standards of quality
- With Prepared Foods Manager, creates and updates Bakery SOPs, training materials, and informational content to reflect current practices, adjusting communication style to reflect department needs.
Works closely with the Prepared Foods Department Manager to plan product offerings and control shrink
- Understands merchandising and sales goals and ensures optimal inventory levels are maintained. Is able to determine areas of need and adjust production accordingly. Collaborates with Prepared Foods Manager to maintain an appealing product mix, adjusting for seasonal demand and/or product availability as indicated
- Understands and follows store-wide and department-specific processes for ordering and receiving product, ensuring integrity of electronic and physical inventory
- Works with Prepared Foods Manager to plan new offerings, considering sales and margin goals, department capabilities, and supplier capacity
Acts as a part of the Prepared Foods team to uphold safety, customer service, and product quality standards
- Performs production tasks as scheduled, modeling leadership by upholding department standards for assigned tasks, as well as identifying and meeting needs as they arise
- Participates as a member of the team, is proactive in approaching issues, and promptly course-corrects when necessary
- Models leadership in safety by demonstrating best practices and bringing safety awareness to each task and interaction
- Maintains a strong awareness of the Prepared Foods department function and addresses issues promptly and appropriately, following store-wide standards for documentation, performance coaching, and incident reporting when called for.
