Company description
Fire Ant Farms is a small family farm on Johns Island, South Carolina. We run a market garden style diversified vegetable operation using natural growing techniques (i.e., follow organic standards but are not certified). We are passionate about regenerative agriculture and use low/no-till practices, crop rotations, and cover cropping. We primarily sell at our local farmers market on Saturday mornings, year-round, a local distributer, and several restaurants.

Job Description:
Farm crew members will learn how to do all the jobs on a successful small farm. Crew members should enjoy being outdoors and be ready to work hard doing manual labor in all kinds of weather. Depending upon the day or task, crew members can expect to work in teams or independently. Throughout the week crew members rotate through all areas of the farm, including, but not limited to:
- Bed flipping and prep (clearing, composting, weeding, planting)
- Seeding and watering
- Harvesting, washing, and packing produce weekly
- Operating tractor and mower
- Collecting & cleaning eggs
- Occasional building & maintenance projects
- Potential deliveries to local businesses
- Assisting with farmers market stall
- Keeping work areas clean and organized
Qualifications:
- Live in the area, have reliable transportation.
- Enthusiasm, flexibility, and positive attitude.
- Interested in sustainable farming.
- Willing and able to work outside in various conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind, bugs, etc.).
- Ability to perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks (e.g., bending, kneeling, lifting and moving 40-50 lb bins of produce).
- Ability and willingness to follow directions and ask questions.
- Comfortable around animals.
- Able to communicate openly.
- Not distracted by personal technology (cell phone) during workday.
- Detail oriented and able to pay attention to plant quality.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
