We are seeking a skilled LUCSA Crew Member to help support our vision: to create a sustainable and equitable food system by way of environmental stewardship, local job creation, healthy-living initiatives, and community building.
Job description
The LUCSA branch plays a key role in achieving our vision by supporting farms and local food producers throughout the Midwest and in the city of Chicago with door-to-door multi-season CSA supplying over 500 members per season. LUCSA Crew Members play a vital role in preparing, packing, and delivering their shares to our members throughout the Chicagoland area.
Duties and Responsibilities (Urban Canopy vehicle provided):
LUCSA Share Pack
- Clean, prep, and bunch produce items for up to 600 CSA shares a week in a 35-40 degree environment.
- Pack CSA shares, load up Urban Canopy vehicles, and clean packing space as a team of up to eight people.
- Basic cleaning of cooler space, storage areas, storage crates, and vehicles.
LUCSA Share Transportation
- Deliver 30-50 shares to LUCSA members throughout the city of Chicago (Wednesday/Thursday 11-7, Friday 9-5).
- Communicate with CSA members about specifics of delivery via text or over the phone.
- Record details of route into online spreadsheets.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and communicate vehicle issues.
Qualifications:
- Have a valid driver’s license
- Be able to lift 50 lbs
- Be able to use a smart phone for customer phone calls, texting and GPS navigation
- Adequate skills driving a van and some knowledge of Chicago streets
- Punctual, effective and clear communicator
- Positive work ethic, able to work in a team and independently
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and handle moderate amounts of uncertainty
- Broader interest in sustainability and food
- Preference for experience with CSA preparation and packing or customer service
- Comfortable working in a high speed environment and able to multitask multiple assignments with a high degree of detail.
- Computer skills: Google Docs Suite and MS Office
Scheduling Information:
This is a year round position and constitutes 8-32 hours of work per week. Crew Members usually spend about half of their time assembling a curated box of local produce and food items for members and half transporting the CSA to membership throughout the city of Chicago.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
