Job description
Atlas Farm is a 120-acre organic vegetable farm servicing wholesale customers throughout New England. The Wholesale Manager is a critical management position at the farm. Growing the crop is only one part of the work that we do. Managing the process from post-harvest to market is equally as important to the overall viability of the farm. This position is a full-time, year-round management position and is one of the more public positions in our organization. The Wholesale Manager is responsible for all post-harvest crop management including packing, storage, sales, and delivery. The Manager is the primary point of contact with customers and needs to have a thorough understanding of the farm's mission, production systems, financial management, history and goals. The Wholesale Manager oversees a full-time Packing House Supervisor, additional seasonal packing house staff, part-time Marketing Coordinator/ Admin Assistant, and two Delivery Drivers. This position reports directly to the farm owner.
Job responsibilities
Sales
◦ Coordinate with other management staff to set daily, weekly, and annual sales goals
◦ Manage all communication with existing and new customers including crop availability, order management, and customer service
◦ Develop new outlets for crops in coordination with overall marketing and production goals
◦ Manage the farm’s online sales platform
◦ Represent the farm at local and regional sales conferences and meetings
◦ Coordinate crop donations to charitable organizations
Post-harvest crop management
◦ Oversee all crop management from post-harvest to delivery including crop packing, storage, inventory management, and quality control
◦ Establish daily and weekly crop packing goals
◦ Maintain harvest and sales records
◦ Manage the farm’s food safety plan through all aspects of post-harvest activities
◦ Manage all crop packing supplies including sourcing and inventory management
Delivery/ Pick-up
◦ Establish delivery routes, daily delivery flow, and pickup orders
◦ Manage all delivery and pick-up related customer service and troubleshooting
Staff management/ Administration
◦ Manage one full-time Packing House Supervisor, seasonal packing house crew of 2-8 workers, two full-time Delivery Drivers, and part-time Marketing Coordinator and Wholesale Admin Assistant
◦ Hire and train for above positions as needed
◦ Coordinate with farm owner and other management staff to establish annual farm budget
◦ Manage wholesale income and expense accounts to meet budget goals
Qualifications
· 2+ years of experience in produce sales required; specific experience with organic vegetable sales desired
· Familiarity with crop production and packing required; specific experience with organic vegetable production and packing desired
· Excellent communication and organizational skills
· Prior experience in staff management, hiring, and training
· Excellent office computing skills including QuickBooks, spreadsheets and database management
Schedule and Compensation
◦ May through November: 5 days per week; ~50-55 hours/week; 6am-5pm daily
◦ December through January: 5 days per week, ~40 hours/week; 8am-4pm daily
◦ February through April: 4 days per week, ~30 hours/week; flexible schedule
