Millstone Farm
Millstone Farm (www.millstonefarm.org) is a 75-acre family owned farm in Wilton, CT. We are a working
farm with many different components including: livestock, gardens, equestrian facility, and pasture and lawn maintenance.
Position(s) Available: Livestock & Landscaping Farm Hand
We are looking for an experienced Farm Hand to support the Livestock Manager and Facilities & Grounds Manager in fulfilling the livestock chores and landscaping duties. The individual will split their time equally between the two departments.
Responsibilities (non-exhaustive list)
Livestock
- Daily animal chores (layers, broilers, sheep, pigs, turkeys, llamas)
- Setting up electric fencing and moving animals between pastures
- Washing and packing eggs
- Inventory of meat products
- Moving chicken tractors
- Mucking stalls & coops
- Trailering livestock, picking up meat, produce deliveries to markets, etc.
- Farm carpenty projects as requested by farm management & livestock/garden/equestrian staff.
Landscaping
- Seasonal set-up and shut-down (Irrigation, spring & fall cleanup, winterization)
- Operate zero turn mower, tractor mower, push mower to maintain the pastures, lawns, and garden pathways
- Use weedwhacker, hand tools, and hand weeding to maintain the perennial garden beds
- Maintain working order & maintenance of all machinery, tools, and equipment used
- Assist with livestock and garden staff as needed
- Weekly check-ins and seasonal maintenance on other properties associated with the farm
Qualifications
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to bring enthusiasm, initiative and a good attitude each day
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Experience and skill operating various farm vehicles; tractor, Bobcat, trailers, etc
- Ability to focus on quality and have attention to detail when performing any tasks
- Able to work outside in all weather conditions and physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs.
- Reliable, responsible and punctual
- Ability to follow directions, ask questions when needed, and retain information for future reference
- Desire to learn
- Communicate well with others
Salary & Benefits
- $15 - $20 per hour, dependent on experience, paid bi-weekly
- Full-Time, Seasonal Position with a 3-month trial period to start.
