Company description Heyday Farm is a sustainable and historic farm on Bainbridge Island, WA where we cultivate 40+ different varieties of vegetables, berries, cut flowers, and have a demonstration chef’s garden. We sell our food through our CSA, wholesale accounts, and provide food for our onsite event venue. We offer weekly farm-to-table Community Dinners, private events, Weddings, and professional and family retreats. Our commitment is to increase our collective nourishment, just as family farms did back in their heydays while experiencing and celebrating our region and the food we produce. Bainbridge Island is located in the Puget Sound, a 35-minute Ferry Ride from Seattle. We are close to the Olympic Peninsula, many neighboring islands and other farming communities. It is a beautiful place to be! Job description Heyday Farm House is currently hiring a motivated Lead Farmer to lead our farm team for the 2024 season.

We are looking for someone passionate about food, farming and enthusiastic about cultivating food for their local community. This person should have a positive attitude, a hard work ethic, a team mentality, and good references. Successful candidates will be able to handle the physical requirements of the farm, have solid initiative and problem-solving skills.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Perform outdoor manual labor in all weather conditions
  • Ability to do all farm-related tasks including, but not limited to greenhouse activities (seeding and transplant care), field preparation, cultivation, irrigation, mulching and harvesting.
  • Planning the planting schedule
  • Crop rotation
  • Hand weeding/hoeing
  • Washing/packing produce
  • General farm maintenance
  • Weed/pest management
  • Organize weekly CSA shareholder distribution during spring and summer share season.
  • Completing bed prep so adequate planting space is available for transplanting and seeding
  • Accomplishing transplanting and seeding on schedule
  • Ensuring irrigation, cultivation, and cultural care are accomplished in a timely fashion
  • Ensuring harvesting and pack out are accomplished on time
  • Ensuring produce deliveries happen on time
  • Managing cover crops to maintain soil fertility.
  • Maintaining/mowing unplanted areas around the production field.

Working independently and with a farm crew to oversee the day-to-day operations of the farm. Tasks include:

  • Manage farm staff
    • Train seasonal farm staff
    • Inspire and lead crew with enthusiasm 
    • Motivate crew to accomplish time-sensitive tasks and maintain efficiency
    • Supervision of and side-by-side work with farm crew.
    • Ability to model team leadership while ensuring staff understand expectations and to efficiently keep farm staff on task.
