Company description
Maine Farmland Trust protects farmland, supports farmers, and advances the future of farming. Our goal is to protect Maine farmland and revitalize Maine’s rural landscape by keeping agricultural lands working and helping farmers and communities thrive.Job description
This position, initially funded through a cooperative agreement with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), offers a unique opportunity to work closely with Maine Farmland Trust (MFT) and NRCS, supporting the enrollment of farmers and landowners in Farm Bill programs while also providing technical assistance to farmers to create holistic climate adaptation plans and access additional sources of funding. The position will be a ‘one stop shop’ for farmers and landowners interested in increasing their operation’s resilience, creating a holistic and comprehensive operation plan, and accessing a wide range of funding opportunities to implement their chosen projects. The Conservation and Climate Planner will be employed and supervised by MFT staff as a member of MFT’s Climate Resilience team, while working closely and learning from NRCS staff.
This full-time position can be based out of Maine Farmland Trust’s Portland or Belfast office, or can be remote but must remain based in Maine. The position will also be expected to work out of NRCS offices to some extent, with a preference for working out of the Waldo County office in Belfast. Final candidates must complete a background check authorization. Post-hire onboarding will be conducted by both MFT and NRCS staff.
