Company description
Our farm is an 80 acre organic farm on the North Fork of Long Island. We grow hundreds of different varieties of vegetables and we sell only direct to consumer via CSA, farmer's markets, and at our large bustling retail market on site. We have a certified organic kitchen which we make all value added items with our produce. We farm year round using unheated greenhouses and sell through a winter farmer's market. We are looking for enthusiastic and hardworking candidates for the 2024 season to work in our fields, at the farmstand and markets, and in our kitchen. We are passionate about farming organically because we believe in caring for the soil, the land, and our future generations.Job description
CSA FARMSHARE PROGRAM COORDINATOR
In search of a CSA coordinator to lead the way in our program serving over 800 members across 20 dropsites on Long Island. This job is a mix of work in the barn/packing house, early mornings overseeing the packing and loading of the delivery trucks, and a little admin in the office. Monday - Friday is ideal, and must be able to start at 6am on Tues, Weds, Thurs. Fridays can end around noon.
You will mainly oversee the weighing, and organizing of the produce ahead of time, and then day of delivery see that it all gets bagged and packed on the truck properly. Knowledge of Spanish is a plus as you will oversee a team with a few Spanish speakers.
The most important aspect of the job is being someone who is great with numbers, details, and has a great memory. The cost of the number of shares being wrong for a site, or the bags not getting all the items is great because people pre-pay for the shares, and they only pickup once a week.
Willingness to help out in other areas of the farm during times when there is less to oversee and coordinate is helpful. There are many areas on the farm that need help at different times of year so we want someone who can jump into the field, the office or kitchen time to time. An eye for quality is also key!
Open to this job starting in July, but sooner in June would be OK too.
Must have related experience, not necessarily in CSA management, but in produce or managing details / people.
